Bought as like new or used: very good, but the plastic bumper ring around it was broken, more cosmetic than functional, I believe it was going to break eventually anyway. If that's a concern, just rap some rubber bands around it. The lock is very sturdy and the rubber flap that covers the combination underneath appears to be sturdy enough, moreso than the plastic bumper ring. Works well, smooth operation, very sturdy, and the combination was easy to reset to one of my liking. I think I'll hose it down with spray lube to prevent deterioration once or twice a year. Could have chosen a cheaper knock off that would have worked well, the technology is not rocket science. I'm happy with the Master lock, I believe it's probably more refined than a cheaper alternative and some needed a tool to reset the combination which was about as desired as having to keep track of a key (not a desirable feature for me, partially defeats the purpose of this kind of lock: simple security if not top flight). The construction is top flight but a four digit combination, by nature is not, but I opted for simplicity. The construction, materials and sturdiness are excellent and maybe over the top for this kind of lock, but it's what I wanted. Looks very secure and in security: perception is reality 90%+ of the time.

It's a lock, it works and is sturdy. What more? Only two gripes, 1. the rubber combo cover is entirely rubber, so it's easy to knock it off. vice versa, it's easy to put it back on. I suggest just leaving it off. Does it help with waterproofing? Maybe a little, but it's loose, so not much. 2. One of my numbers doesn't rotate in one direction very well. It gets stuck. Bad manufacturing tolerance? Basically, if I'm at 8, it is difficult to rotate to 9. Easier to rotate down to 0 and back to 9.

Probably the best lock I’ve bought. It feels very solid, and the combination was easy to set. I use it on my backyard gate. The only issue is the black rubber cover on the bottom comes off too easily. Otherwise, great lock!

This is a heavy-duty lock that is designed to be used in in outdoor environments. If you're looking for a generic lock for things like a gym locker, I recommend the Master Lock 178D instead. This lock is intended for stuff like sheds and gates. This lock has several features that you want if you're going to buy it. First, it's twice the weight of the 178D. Second, it has a rubber flap that covers the numbers, protecting them from the elements. Third, it has a feature that lets you dial the numbers even when you can't seem them. The numbers can't be dialed backwards from zero, so you can't turn them until they stop, and then turn them the other direction, counting the clicks. This may be handy when you need it, but it's very annoying when you don't. Overall, I wish I could return my purchase, but I waited too long. It's too large to fit on my shed door latch (the 178D fits fine), so I'm just going to hang on to it until I find a use.

I bought about $200 worth of these locks for storage containers that I was moving from one side of the country to the other and these are really great. I was using Uhaul‘s U box containers and they include a cheap block with them that I didn’t think was particularly secure and could be easily broken with a set of good bolt cutters. These master locks are way heavier. I’m definitely happy with these and when I’m done with the U box containers I’ll have a whole bunch of locks around for stuff that I need to lock. The locks. Have a combination that you can set yourself.

This lock is exactly as decent and was easy to use! Sturdy, durable and strong!

Junk!! First on I had for maybe a year. Tumblers locked up and I could not open it. Second one “forgot its combo”. I had my bike locked, was ready to pack and leave and I could not open it despite correct combination. I had to cut it!! (Luckily I found someone with an angle grinder and diamond blade). Cutting tool 10s. So it’s not even secured. Still have two days to return it!

This is a standard size outdoor padlock. The shank ip top is a little longer than a normal “locker” sized lock making work where the shorter locks wont. The combination was easy to set by unlocking and rotating the has 180 degrees and pressing it down like you are locking it and rotating it another 90 degrees. The preset combination from the factory is hidden under a little compartment in the rear of the package. Though it was clearly marked I still had to look for it. I was annoyed you have to cut the top off the compartment open instead of easy tab to pull it open. There is also a rubber flap to cover the combination to make it water resistant. The design of the flap makes it a little too easy to remove I had to put it back on at the storage facility from normal use it comes off.

Study lock! It's quite chunky and feels like it's going to take some effort to cut through, so it gives a positive feeling as a reliable lock. The combination was easy to change, and therefore so far so good!
