Better than expected
I bought this because it was the cheapest per ounce I could find on Amazon ($1 per ounce). That’s a fantastic price compared to others! Then I started reading the negative reviews and I was afraid of what I would get. The quality is definitely better than I expected from reviews. Certainly there are stems and leaves, but plenty of flowers too, and even some fruits. It’s the whole plant, minus the roots. I’m going to be taking this for my melancholia, extracting with just water as an herbal tea. I’m adding it to my daily Yerba infusion. I already feel different after just one steep. Feeling less anxious. I definitely feel different than normal. The literature I’ve found seems to agree that the whole plant above the roots are efficacious for melancholia. The flowers are better for making topical ointments, but since I’m steeping it as a herbal tea, this mix is good enough for me. I was concerned that a water steep wouldn’t be enough to extract the active hydrophobic compounds but it seems good to me! Some literature seems to indicate that there are other compounds in the plant that enable better solubility of the active compounds, so I think a whole plant steep is better than an extract. I’ve been taking escitalopram (SSRI) on and off for years and was kind of getting annoyed at having to get my prescription for it every time from my doc. I got a unexpected $100 bill on my last appointment to get it renewed, which was really annoying. My body is sensitive to SSRIs so I only take half a pill (5mg). If I can get 1lb (2.2 kg) of SJW for $16, and a standard dose is approximately 1g (900mg a day according to most of the literature I’ve read) this bag will give me approximately 2200 doses. So this bag will last me more than 2 years so long as I keep it well. I have a MS degree in biology and have work for pharma in the past. I used to be very skeptical of herbal medicines but this one is legit. But definitely do your own research on it and listen to your body. I might even make a tincture for topical applications since there’s so much.

Very fresh. A little pinch in the coffee grounds goes a long way
I prefer to buy as many herbs and supplements in whole organic form as possible. Even powders are better than capsules because with a capsule, you can never really be sure of what you're getting. I like the ethic of Frontier and have been buying bulk herbs from them for years. Buying by the pound tends to be cheapest. This had a beautiful fragrance when I opened it. This was my first time that something was so fresh it made me heady. I typically like to just throw a pinch of whole herbs in with my coffee grounds in the morning. So far, I haven't been able to notice a taste from this. St. John's Wort has been studied for a lot of different benefits, most commonly mood. I have noticed in the past a lifting of my mood. I'm not sure if anything but an industrial jack could do that these days, but it never hurts and with every whole herb, there is always a little nutrient kick no matter what. The only warning I will offer is that this brand comes in a thin bag that is not resealable. Just so you know that you need to either transfer it or get a bag sealer.

Helpful in Relieving Pain, Stress & Depression
So far so good. Although the extract is more potent for many people, this herb tastes fairly mild and is not unpleasant at all. It has natural antidepressant and pain relieving properties, which it was known for first (but most peope know it for its depression relieving properties). If you're on psych meds or have any serious health conditions, it's always a good idea to discuss changes with your doctor.. but a naturopath or herbalist may be more helpful since most modern doctors don't seem to know much about health supplements and medicinal herbs. That's not their area of expertise, and I encourage you to do your own research and always start slow, but do what's best for your individual mind and body. St. John's Wort may not necessarily yield immediate results, so if you're seriously depressed or suicidal, please seek professional help. For all others, this herb can bring you some stress and pain relief, and help uplift your mood. The quality is good.

Nice and fresh
It is calming. Has a nice flavor. Great value for money. I am surprised that it is supposed to relieve pain, but it is possible: once one is relaxed, it sure would be less pain. I don't use it on it's own. I mix it with other herbs, like Thyme, Lemon Grass, Lavender, Mint... It is an awesome recipe from my elders. Adding anything less than perfect would be just something like trying to feed Arabian horse with a 10 year old hay. This Saint John's Wort from this supplier is of a highest standard. I didn't test it, but I like it.

very happy
Stems and all, it makes a fine tea. Add a pinch of sugar and some lemon juice. Just use a fine micro mesh steeper (Amazon has some good ones). I have chronic intercostal nerve irritation brought on by an old bout of shingles. This stuff gets rid of it -- it works for me. I will buy more in the future.

Good
People write how there are too many stems and other parts beside flowers. Well, a flower is mostly stem, so that is what happens when you break it into pieces. It comes in the package in the proportions that i would expect flowers to be in when they are broken. I have been using it as recommended .. 2 tsps twice daily. I really like it. Most noticeably, it gets rid of my headaches and greatly dims other random pains. Use it as recommended. It is not a magical antidepressant. The herb is a nervine, so it helps with depression associated with the nervous system [anxiety, stress] when you use it for a few weeks as recommended. Do your research before you take herbs medicinally and they will work out fine.

Great for homemade vitamins.
I decided to start making my own vitamins. SJW is a good anti-inflammatory. I'd been buying SJW store bought for a while and noticed that it wasn't helping at all. Once I saw how many retailers had been outed as selling defective vitamins, I decided to bite the bullet and make my own SJW. I bought the empty gel caps from Amazon and started making my own. I've now made my own SJW, Chia seeds, Flaxseed Oil and Tumeric. It's not that hard to make them. Not to mention I'm online too much anyways. It's good to just sit and do a chore and just be silent. I've been buying Frontier herbs for almost 2 years now and I'm very happy with their quality. The SJW was a little coarse for pills so I ground it in a power in my Vita Mix. Poured right in just fine.
