A Worthy (but non-essential) Tie-In
A very fun read, full of nostalgic throwbacks and gorgeous art. Along with the sort of dialogue you expect from a Moon/Parker team-up, there's also the usual inner turmoil - for both characters - that with other characters and writing styles seems burdensome. But we know these characters. Their self-doubt and overwhelming sense of responsibility pull them along for the ride just as much as their development pulls us, the readers, along.I wouldn't consider it essential to "Spider-Verse", even though it's labelled as a tie-in, and it could even be taken as a standalone if you weren't familiar with Cindy Moon/Silk, but beware there is a crash-course in a fundamental Peter Parker/Spider-Man character, and his presence is usually felt through memories and internal monologues from Parker. This time he's drawn larger-than-life across the pages, thanks to time travel, and it's probably this detail that takes the leap from simple lay-up shot of nostalgia into the territory of necessary character exploration of Parker. It's a great collection nonetheless.

Effectively, an Entertaining "What If?" Story
"The Amazing Spider-Man & Silk: The Spider(fly) Effect"collects all four issues of the miniseries. The story takes place in the gutters between "Silk" vol. 2, nos. 2-3, with Spider-Man having just learned that Silk is working undercover in Black Cat's gang. While they have their fake fight for her to prove herself, they observe a strange shimmer which the two trace to Chronosaurus Rex, a time-traveling mech suit. It takes them back in time to a period just prior to the radioactive spider bites that gave Peter Parker and Cindy Moon their powers. In going back in time, they've caused a butterfly effect and don't get their powers, so they work with Ben Parker to find a way to restore time. Along the way, the two must question the nature of fate and encounter their past selves.Robbie Thompson writes a fun story and Todd Nauck and Tom Grummett provide good art. Unfortunately, there are several inconsistencies. Peter and Cindy have only traveled about ten years back and yet their families don't recognize them. Worse, for all the good character growth here, the story undoes itself by the end, so that one may read the entire "Silk" comics line and never miss anything for having skipped this story. That said, if you're looking for something entertaining with these two characters, this will fulfill that desire.

Amazing Spider-Man & Silk: The Spider(fly) Effect
classic time travel storyFor years they were strangers despite their common origin. Then they were lovers. Now they're not quite friends. But Spider-Man and Silk have no option but to put all that behind them for a timetorn Team-Up, when they are sent back to just before they got their spider-powers! Can they let bygones be bygones, stop a sinister threat to reality as they knew it, and avoid accidentally wiping out the moment that gave them their amazing abilities? Maybe these two anachronistic arachnids could enlist some aid from a local Forest Hills man. His name's Ben Parker, you might know him? Spider and Silk face a date with destiny right back where it all began - the spectacular science fair that started it all!COLLECTING: AMAZING SPIDER-MAN & SILK: THE SPIDER(FLY) EFFECT 1-4

Spider-Man and Silk time travel
Spider-Man and Silk get sucked back in time with Chronosaurus Rex and have to figure out how to stop Hyrda and get back to thier own time.Robbie Thompson has potential. The back and forth bickering between Spider-Man and Silk was fantastic. There were some definite plot holes though that knocked a star off for me. First, why would Hydra build a time machine that looks like a robot dinosaur? Blends in real well with the locals, right? Then Peter comes across Uncle Ben unmasked and Ben doesn't recognize him. I don't care if he's 11 years older, the difference between a person at 16 and 27 is physically not that great. He even sits down for dinner with the rest of the family. I mean, come on! Longtime Spider-Man artist Todd Nuack provides his typical reliable artwork.
