Review: Eloquent and Easy to Read - If you are like me and must take in the Qur'an in English to more fully understand its message, I strongly encourage you to purchase Ali Quli Qarai's translation. Having grown up Muslim speaking some Arabic at home that is nothing like the scriptural Arabic of the Qur'an, I am no scholar who can vouch for the accuracy of the translation beyond the basics. But I do know scholars who do appreciate and recommend this version. Over the years, I have purchased and given away this version dozens of times—it's that good! I grew up on the archaic, cumbersome translations from the 19th and early 20th centuries, the only ones that were widely available in the '90s. So from my vantage point, this is a gift. It is the only translation I have read that retains some of the eloquence of the Arabic (well, as much as the English can retain) and is easy to read.

If you are like me and must take in the Qur'an in English to more fully understand its message, I strongly encourage you to purchase Ali Quli Qarai's translation.
