A very nice set for the money. The board and chess pieces area good quality

there are several nearly identical looking chess sets on amazon, this one is the best among them.The good:- large board and large pieces, one of the largest you can find on amazon of this type (plastic, magnetic, folding board, brown/beige pieces, fake wood patern on the squares etc)- the squares are square. this seems insane to say, but it has to be said. prety much all of the other nearly identical looking sets are not square in dimentions, they are longer one way than the other. Worse, the actual play squares on them are rectangles, which you will notice as you stare at the board during play.- magnets are strong enough to hold the pieces upside down (not the case with many other similar sets)The bad:- this is a chessboard first, checkers are an afterthought - they are non magnetic and dont stack or flip to different side for queening.- other similar boards often come with cloth bags for the pieces, this one comes with plastic ziplock bags that wont last.- this is on a larger side of such sets, if you want an ultraportable one, this is not it.+ for me these flaws were a non issue, chekers went to the trash, bags were replaced, size was perfect for my use; but your use case may varry.The ugly:Hinges of this board are nothing more than bent/crimped pieces of plastic (you are -bending- them every time you open and close it) that will almost certainly break with use, queation is how long they will last. Unfortunatly this design is present in almost all of the plasic/metal magnetic sets on amazon, and beyond amazon. They seem to be made in the same factories in china and this is a very common design flaw.

I love this chess set. The pieces look and feel great, which is really important to me. I like when chess pieces look nice. This is the best you can get without spending a ton of money on fancy hand-crafted wooden pieces from wood harvested from the forbidden forest. The magnets work VERY well. You can hold the board upside and play laying on your back if you feel like it.Only bad thing: the checkers pieces suck! I don't mind since I don't care about checkers. But if I ever make a friend who wants to play checkers, we'll have to buy a whole other set because these checkers pieces are hot garbage. They don't stack on top of each other, and they look and feel like crap.But boy howdy do I love the chess pieces. And the board is very nice as well.

The chess and checker set was just as described. The chess pieces had magnets, but the checkers pieces did not. Although the magnet on the chess pieces are strong, they will not super strong. They can hang from the board upside down, but you cannot shake the board or they will fall. However, I found that for this travel set, it was good enough. The problem I had was with the small plastic closure/locking mechanism. I had a defective piece that broke off and could not be placed back on. (Believe me, we tried.) So although you could fold the board closed, there was nothing to keep it closed. I contacted the seller, and explained the problem. I had a new chess board in two days. Great customer service! And the closure on the new chess board is not defective. :)

Love it! Perfect size. Small enough for Travel, Big enough for play.I like that it has the coordinates listed by each square. Size of units is good. Appears study. It even comes with rubber bags to keep your pieces in. I also like that it locks when closed so it can't spill out the pieces.2 complaints:The checkers are not magnetic.The board could be a little deeper for storing the pieces, as it takes a minute or so to fit all of the pieces inside and get it closed for traveling.

Mine came with a little dent in the top, but I imagine that happened during shipping, and it didn't really affect anything. This seems to be the best option for a Chess board that I could find on Amazon. The price for what you get is outstanding. I play Jailhouse/Prison style Chess in a bar, and this thing takes a beating. We slam the pieces and drop them all the time, dancing around talking trash, playing fast. And, the board and pieces are no worse for wear, as far as I can tell. Very pleased.Pro Tip: Ditch the Checkers pieces if you don't play Checkers. Seems like just the right amount of room to comfortably throw the Chess pieces in there between sessions.

I am trying to teach my daughter how to play chess and I liked the fact that this was a smaller board that could be used for travel. She however prefers to play checkers. Although the chess pieces are magnetized, the checkers pieces are not. In addition, having the rounded edges to the checkers pieces makes it easy for the kings to fall apart.Other than those 2 minor things, I really like the board and the pieces. Good value and I am happy with my purchase.

I just received this today. It is more substantial than I was expecting for $20. I thought the board would make a hollow sound when moving on it. It does not. It is a nice board even though it is plastic (which I knew).The pieces are very nice. They are a good quality plastic with a nice feel. I am impressed! All pieces arrived in excellent condition.I bought this one because I was being picky about the design and look of each piece. They are perfect for me!I am very pleased with this!

Checkers have no magnets! The description is misleading, only the chess pieces are magnetic, the checker pieces are not magnetic. Otherwise not a bad product, very plasticky but that’s expected for the price

Use it to play everyone once in a while. Magnets are strong and pieces are good quality

I like that it is a magnet board but I think when the chess set is folded out it should click so that it stay like that instead of hanging

I wanted to find a secondary set that is portable, magnetic, good look. Coordinates were also important to have as visual support during my chess study and reading.I must say that I'm very pleased with the quality and feel, the value is excellent! It's all made of plastic but with a wood feel and look.My main set cost hundreds of dollars and is amazing obviously but it not portable and doesn't have coordinates.This second set is the perfect complement and I'm happy with my choice!

To my surprise, the item was factory sealed when I received it and I felt an immediate sense of satisfaction. The board is made plastic and has a beautiful wood grain pattern. The pieces are chunky and glide smoothly while sticking to the magnetic board. I'm super satisfied and love everything about this board! The two thing I wish would be if the board locked flat while opened and if it came with was extra Queens! I would buy the extra loose Queens if they were available for sale but whatever the case may be, this board is awesome and so is the price!
