This cook book is not what I expected. The recipes contained to many items I do not usually cook with and contained to many ingredients. I was expecting more of the items they served in their resturants.

Perfect for Fresh and Seasoned Cooks Alike
Any true Foodie knows the talent and diversity that Cleveland chefs have to offer. We've seen them on TV, read about them in the most respected publications, and now we can bring them into our kitchens.Not only do we get to try the recipes that have put these chefs on the map, the author has written wonderful bios to introduce the reader to the chef's background, culinary and entertaining tips; its as if she's performing a personal introduction before the chef walks into your kitchen.I've tried 11 recipes so far (this includes sauces for the dishes), and made two full meals. The recipes are easy to follow for the average person who just likes to play in the kitchen. Some are so easy, even a beginner can make an award-winning dinner. Some recipes may seem a bit challenging for the novice, but not too overwhelming, just enough to inspire a seasoned home chef to try something new. Thankfully, the author also has video tutorials on her website/blog on some techniques. Having moved a bit further away from Cleveland, I miss going to some of my favorite restaurants as often as I'd like. How happy (and proud) I was when I made a sauce that tasted just as I remembered from one of my favorite places!I love the author's theme, asking the chefs what would they serve if company was coming over in an hour. They contributed recipes for an entire meal, from the appetizer to dessert. This makes things simple for the host, as the combination of flavors and textures have already been tested in the best restaurants. Beer, wine and cocktail suggestions also accompany each menu, so you are sure to have memorable dinner party. However, the author also included a valuable 'mix and match' page, so you can customize your own menu.Many vegetarian recipes, some vegan and some can easily be made just as tasty without the meat.This is a great gift for anyone who loves Cleveland or loves fantastic recipes that are easy to follow

Highlighting Local Talent
I originally bought the book as a gift for an ex-Clevelander, but after sneaking a peek, or two . . . or three, I bought another copy for myself. I loved the pages where the author details how the chefs got their start. An overwhelming number of them learned their love of food from their families.Even though the recipes are what our hometown food heroes would whip up for friends and family in an hour, they are far from run-of-the-mill. There are recipes that would make my Italian grandma proud and recipes that I'm sure Grandma would never have even have dreamed of. Unusual combinations of ingredients, new ways to make old favorites,this book offers both. And you don't have to be a Clevelander to enjoy it!

Even if you DON'T like to cook....
I had a family of 7 children...I have cooked and cooked and cooked for all my married life of 36 years. Now - I love restaurant gift cards! Especially to the restaurants of these amazing Cleveland chefs. So I drool over the recipes and hope to eat something similar...out...at their restaurants. BUT the chef bios in this book are worth the cost of the book...seriously, Maria has captured each one perfectly! And always good to drop a story about how a chef started pursuing his/her passion at any point in his/her life to your kids...as they try to discover their way in life! Buy this book...amazing!
