I never had a problem with the rubber caps, except when my mother-in-law pulled them off to hand me my phone. I have ram grips on several of my bikes to hold my phone. I have moved the grips from time to time. I have a bag of zip ties I bought at the hardware store. I just cut the old tie and put on a new one when I change bikes or location on the handle bars.
