Useful in Archiving old VHS-C tapes to digital
I had a vhs-c camera but the heads weren't good and the head cleaner tape did nothing. It wasn't worth getting it fixed or buying a used one on ebay with potentially the same problem so I got this adapter instead. Popped in the vhs-c tape and then popped that into a half decent vcr and was able to transfer anolog files through a pass-through device into my mac. Worked great until the vcr stopped working smoothly. I was just trying to save money by archiving files on my own but I still wound up spending $ on the back end and burning time. A great little device that will last way longer than I need it to and worth saving.

Nailed it
If you have some VHS-C cassettes that you need to view in a standard VHS player, this is what you need. The one that came with my camera years ago went bad. This is a great replacement and works as needed. Like others said, the first thing you do is put in a battery, then open the cassette door with the small sliding switch. This unit has a motor that opens the door. Then you put in the VHS-C and close the door manually. Then the motor pulls tape from the cassette to the proper location for putting into a VHS player. PUT THE BATTERY IN AS SOON AS YOU GET IT. Then slide the switch. One AA battery required.

Works very well! Insert the battery b4 trying to open/close the lid/cover!
The quick directions should state that the batter MUST to be inserted BEFORE trying to open and close the lid/cover! Maybe that's intuitive to some, but I thought the battery was for the mechanism when the tape was running in the player (which it may also be). I didn't realize it's purpose is (or also is) to open and shut the lid. Sheesh. Anyway, once I inserted the battery, the glide button for opening and closing the lid work fine. The device overall works fine, too!

Junk - Multiple issues
I bought this helping a relative transfer VHS-C media to standard DVD using a VHS style adapter. Following instructions, Smaller VHS-C cassette had issues sitting inside but noticed a click once it was secure and door shut. Loading into my VHS Machine, the gears from the tape adapter started making a grinding noise, then the tape would not eject. I had to manually take off the top of my VHS Machine to help eject the tape. Due to this issue, my automatic door on the VHS machine no longer works. Issue two, When the cassette plays, there is a click every two seconds and seems there is serious tension on the mechanism that the Player stops after only 10-20 seconds. Asked for a replacement from Amazon, but because it is fulfilled, they will not accept returns but promptly refunded my money. This adapter cassette is not built to manufacture specs. It is inferior. Do not use it.......
