Good for both beginners and more dedicated lunar observers
A slim book but pitched at a good level for beginners but enough detail for those wanting to go deeper with detailed maps for lunar astronomers. Well worth its low price.

What A Delightful Book!
Who amongst us hasn't gazed up at the moon and felt intrigued by it's beauty. As a young child I vividly recall my feeling of wonder at being told by my mother that men were walking on it at that very moment, and if I looked hard enough I might just see them (provided I ate all my carrots of course!) Years later, that sense of wonder is rekindled by this lovely book. This is a beginner's guide and written to be accessible to a wide audience, be they a schoolchild or adult. It isn't heavy going, and the information comes in brief, well articulated sections. It's a slim paperback (and certainly not a pamphlet as suggested by one reviewer) that's divided into three sections: General lunar information, a lunar atlas and finally, astrophotography. Section 1 - The Moon Thirty three pages covering subjects such as its origin, orbit, phases, surface feature nomenclature, observation, exploration, eclipses, conjunctions and so on. Did you know that the traditional name for a full moon in January is a 'wolf moon' ? Or that Apollo 11 landed on a bed of ancient solidified lava? Section 2 - Lunar Atlas The lunar surface (that visible from Earth) divided into 16 squares, with a map of each, accompanied by the corresponding photograph and some interesting notes. Section 3 - Astrophotography Some really useful advice here about how to take our own photographs, whether with a DSLR, or an inexpensive telescope and a smartphone. Altogether a lovely book, Moongazing satisfies a general interest and provides a primer for anyone who might discover they're keen to know more. I loved reading it, and I shall buying another to give as a gift to a family member. Great fun for young and old alike. Recommended.

A great way to understand the moon and all it has to offer
Personally. Thank you to Tom Kerss. An Excellent book for all levels of observer. The information at the beginning is great. The moon maps are detailed enough, to discover and log, what was Patrick Moore's "favourite object", amongst all the others that he adored. Your tribute to him was not lost on me. I met him a few times. What a guy. ! I am sure that he would heap his praise upon you for this publication. Great Job.
