I’ve gone through a lot of headsets over the years, and the Audeze Maxwell 2 are easily the best I’ve owned so far. The sound quality is on another level — clear, detailed, and powerful without being muddy. Whether it’s gaming, music, or just general use, everything sounds rich and well-balanced. A lot of people mention the weight as a downside, but honestly, I don’t see it. They feel solid, not heavy. In fact, the weight adds to the premium feel. I can wear them for long sessions without any discomfort. Comfort is excellent, and the build quality is exactly what you’d expect at this price point - sturdy, well-made, and built like something that’s meant to last. They actually feel like you got your money’s worth the moment you pick them up. If you’re on the fence, don’t be. These are a serious upgrade from typical gaming headsets.

These are easily the highest quality headphones I've ever owned and the physical build feels like a premium piece of equipment. The sound quality is unbelievable. The level of detail is on a completely different level compared to my older PlayStation headsets. What impressed me most is how distinct different sound levels are. Even during heavy action scenes with loud, impactful bass, I can still hear voices and small distinct sounds perfectly. And the bass can be glorious when it really hits. The dialogue quality is also perfect. I was watching The Expense and during a scene with two characters talking, I could clearly hear faint background voices from a conversation happening outside the room in the scene. The environmental sound coming from these headphones blew me away and I'm genuinely looking forward to watching my movie collection again to pick up on audio notes I've likely missed in the past. I have never had a pair of headphones that could separate sounds with that much precision. The Audeze HQ app is also a great feature. Being able to use different EQ presets or customize your own sound profile directly to the headphones is genuinely cool and helps dial in the audio for specific needs. As for the fit, they are quite comfortable once I took a moment to adjust the suspension strap. If you want the best possible audio for movies and games on the PS5, these are a total game-changer. I would strongly recommend (it's practically a requirement in my opinion) to immediately connect the USB C dongle and headphones to a computer and install the Audeze PC app. There was a firmware update for both dongle and headphones so probably a good idea to get that updated asap. For negatives, the documentation is quite lacking. Even something simple like starting to pair Bluetooth to my phone was counter-intuitive. BTW, you need to press the Power button twice quickly to start pairing. Each physical button also has multiple actions and there's nowhere to easily see that. For example, you can double tap the volume button (top wheel) and that will let you cycle through the EQ presets. The main issue with the headphones, which seems to be a standard problem with planar magnetic headphones as a whole, is a metallic ... crinkling? ... during particularly loud scenes. I was watching The Batman and during the car scene there maybe two or three moments where there was an explosion or engine revving and there was a low but relatively distinct sound that sounded, well ... metallic. But I have the PlayStation Pulse Elite earbuds which use the same planar magnetic tech and they do the same thing. Anyway, this is something that, when it happens, can be slightly distracting. But I will say it didn't happen much during The Batman - maybe 4 or 5 moments total, each one lasting a second or two. However, the positives *vastly* outweigh the negatives for me. The audio quality is truly second to none, and I've been hearing sound details I've never heard before in the movies and shows I've been watching. Highly recommended.
