Jobe's Organics Fast Acting Granular Fertilizer Compost Starter

This compost starter is excellent. My indoor bucket went cold due to changing weather. I applied this as indicated on the bag and immediately, rather overnight it started to heat up and speed the break down. This is a worthy investment. The finished compost will end up with a 4/4/2 blend which is excellent for most plants. The bag does reek when you open which is expected considering it has dried chicken manure as part of the base. Overally for my smaller compost pile, this will last a while. I'm happy with my purchase. I'll be able to use my compost next spring. 🤩

Stinks but works well at breaking down my compost faster so we can use it for soil in our garden.

Recieved compost starter bag with tape on top of bag to seal. However that did not work, bag had emptied inside cardboard shipping package. I did salvage product. The product itself is great. Convenient zip seal bag. Product speeds up the composting processes. This is my second bag. I will buy again.

I purchased this to add gradually per instructions to my small compost pile, started last month & consisting so far of unused garden soil, grass clippings and vegetable scraps. Those already started decomposing but I wanted to speed things up, as I have not much to add to the pile now. In the past I have used “compost accelerators”. The bag I got was securely packed in a cardboard box with air bubble (?) packing, so no broken bags, I got a full and secure bag of product. There is no expiration date, I think other reviewers are reading the date of manufacture as an expiration date. I added about 2 cups over the pile and raked it in, did not water as the pile was wet from rain & more rain is expected. Buyers should know that this stuff stinks to high heaven! It is granular, not a powder.

My compost batch that I added this too did break down. I don't know if it made it any faster but it made me feel like I was contributing to the composting.

If you are blessed with lots of composting bins, space, energy and/or time, you probably don't need this. But if you want to maximize the amount of compost you get from a small space in a short time without regularly turning your pile over (at *least* once per week), this stuff will give your pile's composting action a nice boost. I have been composting without this stuff for years -- with limited results. I have a large plastic compost bin that doesn't get turned as often as it should due to the work involved. I can't do a proper job of stirring the pile by inserting fork and/or shovel (through the undersized fill hole) into the bin, so I must move the bin, sift the usable compost out, and return the remains to the bin. Since buying this Compost Starter, after adding several layers of material to the bin, I sprinkle just about a tablespoon of this over the top and lightly water it in. It has noticeably increased the amount of usable compost I can sift out of the bin every few weeks. If you turn your pile often (via tools or tumbling composter), you will likely see limited benefit in using this, beyond getting your batch started. The regular turning of the pile will speed up the distribution of helpful organisms through your pile -- and they will work, reproduce, and work some more at amazing speed. However, if you are just lumping new material regularly onto your pile(s), it can take quite some time for those little workers to work their way to the top. That's why it helps to turn it over or mix it up regularly. If you can't find the time or it is just too much work and you want to speed up the process anyway, adding a bit of this occasionally helps get the action going in the upper reaches of the pile. Bottom line: if you want to get the most out of your composting without putting in the maximum effort to keep turning it or mixing it up, this product will help.

Used this product in my compost rotating bin, worked exactly like it said it would. Would buy it again
