Hudson Taylor's Spiritual Secret (Moody Classics)

Very well-written and of great value, this book has caused a shift in my perspective of loving and serving Jesus. I have a deeper desire to abide in His presence and know Him more intimately and follow Him more closely. I will be referring back to many passages in this book, but more than that, dig deeper in God's Word and trust Him more.

As a married minister with children, I often wrestle with how much my family should sacrifice for the good of others. I have heard horror stories of preachers' kids leaving the faith because they resented church, and felt as if they missed out on much that life offers. I want to please my Lord with all of my being, but could my zeal hurt them instead of help them? Can they learn to love Jesus with all of their being without having all this world offers?Hudson Taylor's Spiritual Secret was a huge boost to what a married man with children can accomplish by faith. He did not have everyone's support, but he unquestionably had the Lord's. His zeal, passion, and faith led to revolutionary efforts spreading the gospel in China. The work met with much hardships and heartaches. Yet, he had what mattered most -- peace. He did not have that at the beginning of his work. Through time, he came to know God's peace that passes all understanding. He lost some of his children while doing the Lord's work. He lost his first wife at a young age. He had to send his older children back to England for educational purposes. Taylor endured a lot of silence from supporters in England when he craved moral support. Yet, through it al, he possessed the peace that only the Lord can give.When Hudson and his wife lost their child, we do not read that they blamed the work in China and went home. No, you read of an accepting peace, and a determination to stay the course. When his first wife died, she passed on comforted by the promises of God. Through conflict, roadblocks, and other difficulties, faith in God won by far.Reading this book helped remind me that when you have a genuine love for the Lord, it will infect others. Prayer is powerful, and it is a great tool to help your family and friends. I don't have to accept the advice of some that does not challenge ME to challenge my family. God wants us all in covenant with Him, and He can work out things in His time. In the meantime, we are to pray, laying all our cares before Him, and get out and do His work. God will take care of the rest! Again, this book was a real help to a married minister with children pondering what we are able to do in the kingdom of God.Matthew 6:33

What a life lived for Christ, what a beautiful LORD. To only be so committed as Hudson Taylor, I pray for such a commitment.

I found this book in a Christian college library. I cried three times as I read of God's miraculous faithfulness to those to totally give their lives to His service, and rely only on God to supply what they need. A couple of months after I first read it, I was listening to Charles Stanley. He ended up mentioning that he makes a point to read this book at least once a year, and it always makes him cry. Apart from the Bible, this may possibly be my favorite book.

This book about one of the modern heroes of the Christian faith should probably be unofficial required reading for all Christians. Before I read it, I had heard about Hudson Taylor many times but had never taken the time to read about the man and his mission. This book was penned by his son and daughter-in-law in 1932, and the literary language of the times is quite evident throughout the book. Many direct quotes by Mr. Taylor himself were included which had even more quaintly archaic language, which is why I gave the book four rather than five stars. At times I had to push myself to get past the distinctly old-fashioned literary style, but having read mostly from the KJV Bible, I was helped in that regard. I did find myself at times longing for a more contemporary writing style, but the story was so strong and compelling I found myself turning the pages nonetheless. I think any attempt to "modernize" this particular account (the first I've read of the many available on Hudson Taylor and the CIM) would actually detract from its sense of immediacy, of being very close to Hudson Taylor himself. I recommend the book to any Christian who wants to learn about the remarkable faith of a deservedly famous historical missionary, as told by his son and containing many personal quotes by Hudson Taylor himself. I read this book first as recommended by Warren W. Wiersbe in his book, Living With the Giants.

It was an eye-opener to comprehend what abiding in Christ really means and how the secret is the utmost surrender to a life of carrying one’s cross, while trusting Christ for the fruit.

What a book bargain. This is a story of one person's life who followed God to the best of his ability. There is truly something for every person in this book. This is a witness of a time to live and a time to die, a time to rejoice and the time to Navigate pain. An example of walking with God on the bleeding edge. In Hope of this changing me to follow God closer.

This biography of Hudson Taylor not only gives a great narrative account of his life and the work in China but it also gives the secret to it all: abiding in Christ. From beginning to end you see how the Lord shaped him to be a man of faith and it encourages you to lean on and trust in God. This book will help to increase your faith a thousand times over!

Came in quickly and in perfect condition.This edition is an older translation, so very old English literature, maybe not suited for younger readers or people who speak english as their second language.Great content! A favourite in our home!

After several chapters that held my general interest, the chapter 'The exchanged life' showed me that there is a greater and deeper walk available for every Christian who will but ask, seek, and knock. Hudson Taylor represents a genuine 'New Testament Christian'. I have only met two of these and I want to be one.

I liked the way Hudson Taylor got prepared for his life long journey and the way this book told his wonderful story of self denial & suffering to be ALL that God intended him to be to save maybe millions of unsaved Chinese people who were totally lost to the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Wow, what a great example to us all.

Il ne s'est pas enrichi de son appel, au niveau pécunier mais il nous a plutôt enrichi de par son exemple.

This book is an amazing testimony to Hudson Taylor's love for God and how God used him mightily to scatter the seeds of the Gospel over China. If only we were as faithful and as prayful and reliant on God as Taylor; how much more would we experience God's power in our lives!
