perfect but with some things to keep in mind...
I live with my wife, no kids, but sometimes we have others come over with their children. The last thing we need is an accident and years in jail for me for not properly securing my weapon, not including emotional trauma. Also, my neighborhood isn't the best. I needed a way to get to my weapon with ease and speed. Those two things led me to this piece of equipment. So here we go... Pros: the set up is super easy. It took me less than 20 minutes to set this up. It lets you set your own password, any way you want! That made it even better. The best part about that is you can make it nearly impossible for someone to guess. The password allows for two numbers at the same time to make one digit and an additional few more numbers. It's completely up to you. The holes on the side allow you to place this thing pretty much anywhere. I have mine hanging on the side of my bed, close to my head. It's impossible to see because I put the covers over it. It just looks like a big bump in the sheets. You would never guess and no one has guessed that I have a weapon there. I show people and they are shocked! I love it. The item drops the gun in seconds and allows for quick access. Once that password is entered a second and a half later, maybe less, that weapon is available. Some people might feel like that's too much time than for those people I say leave the gun on the counter loaded. A safety hazard and easy pickings for anyone wanting to steal it or use it on you. Besides that I understand why we want our weapons faster, every second counts but a second and a half is not that much time to grab a loaded weapon from anywhere! So from password to gun in hand - 3 seconds. nice! If I'm dead within those three seconds I never had a chance! The box comes with keys, just in case you forget the password. I find myself having to open it now and then because I don't think about the gun any more when people are over. I will forget the password. The keys allow for password reset as well. It has blinking lights to inform you that someone tried to open it. Tamper stuff. You can test this by pushing a short combination. It makes a beeping sound when you open it but that can be silenced very easily. The machine is simple, easy, and safe. Cons: Just one real one. The item is not a tank. If a burglar finds it and wants it they can take it, though not without struggle. Mine is attached to my wood bed frame so one could tear it out but not without some serious struggle. The person would have to take the whole box and figure out how to take the gun out later. Unless they have enough time to move my dead body over and use my tools to unscrew stuff and figure it out. Not cool! In terms of how difficult it would be to open it after the whole thing is taken I would say not difficult at all. However, and keep this in mind, if someone is able to steal this than they would have stolen your gun anyway! So that's why I say this is not a big con. I see people complaining that its not thick enough metal and so on. Sure, for some its not, but I'm not a ninja or stock piling serious weaponry. I have a handgun that I need secured and quick access to, so this works. 2nd con: it takes batteries and they don't come with it! It felt like Christmas morning. I was so excited but had to wait to run to the store to get batteries!!! The batteries will last forever because they only power the little light you see when you push the buttons and the light that shines after the box opens. The lights are dim and could not be seen beyond that room or space. If someone was in my hallway I wouldn't be concerned with them seeing the small lights since I will be sending them to the bigger light. lol. I crack myself up. 3rd con. It makes a noise when it opens...nothing serious. It doesn't wake my wife when I open it. (I practice for fun every now and then) Most people wouldn't even know what that sound is. It's just the lock mechanism unlocking and the door dropping down. My final thoughts: I regret nothing!!!!!! I recommend to all my friends. I actually do very little recommending because once they see it in action they all want one! For the hard core guy you might be disappointed because it's not steal and fastened with unbreakable metals. You might just need a safe or hidden mechanical wall stuff like the movies. For everyone else, you will be pleased.

PERFECT BEDSIDE HOLDER!
For years I've been using a mattress flap holder for my bedside pistol. This has worked marginally well as long as you don't lift the mattress or pull to hard on the sheets or move the bed at all. I found myself constantly check this "holster" to make sure enough of it remained under the mattress to keep it (and my loaded firearm!) from falling on the floor. It was cheap and adequate to hold my night gun, but certainly not as secure as I would have liked. I recently decided to upgrade to this GunVault SV500 and couldn't be happier. This is far more secure and reliable than the mattress flap I had before. I attached it to the wooden nightstand next to my bed and it is very accessible and easy to manipulate. I chose to purchase the keypad version instead of the biometric model and am very happy with that decision. The key pad is very easy to access and quick to open. You simply program in your own entry code and you can rapidly deploy the contained firearm as needed. I actually prefer to open the vault at bed time and allow the door to remain open all night, thus avoiding having to remember a code and enter it correctly when I'm awakened from a deep sleep in the middle of the night by that perverbial sound of uninvited footsteps in my home. I then close the vault in the morning before I leave for the day. I no longer have small children in the house so there is no need to leave the vault closed at night to avoid a youngster from inadvertently obtaining my loaded pistol. As to the vault's operation, it is easy to open when the code is entered. The 10 second light is a nice feature when the room is dark. There is an audible "thunk" sound when the door opens (which is somewhat loud in a quiet environment) but it is not overly obnoxious. You can set the keypad buttons to beep when depressed or select for them to be silent. A small green light will blink with the depression of each button. This too is a nice feature when viewing the keypad as you input the code. It should be noted that this vault is not intended to be a fireproof or theft-proof device. It is simply a vault (not a SAFE) designed to secure your loaded firearm from unintended use or handling. For this purpose, it works exceedingly well. Enjoy!

Awesome little piece of mind
Quite a few reviews on this speed vault SV500 were negative, and I'm not sure why, it shipped on time, and right out of the box I could feel how sturdy and solid of a unit it is, it didn't feel "cheap" to me at all, it took about 20 minutes to install, and that's with reading instructions too. It mounted perfectly on the side of my night stand right next to my bed, set my combo, disabled the "beep" by pushing the silent button up inside close to where the 9v battery goes, put in my 9mm, (which has a nice fit, not too tight, not too loose) I like where my gun is positioned inside, very easy and quick to obtain, entered my code several times and the door opened every time without fail. Some reviewers stated that the LED inside the door was too bright, yeah, it's a little bright, but my alarm clock on the same nightstand is brighter, actually, you could probably put a piece of tape over the LED or color it with a sharpie if it's too bright for you I suppose. It does make a "click-clunk" sound when the door falls open, but that doesn't bother me because from the time I enter my combo to when I have my gun in my hand takes about 1.5 to 2 seconds, so if that noise does alert a bad guy to my location, i'll be ready long before the threat gets to my, or my kids' upstairs bedrooms. I like the security of being able to get to my gun quicker from my speed vault rather than from... my safe,... inside my closet...on the other side of my room. There are three mounting screws that secure the vault in place, so yeah if someone wanted to, they could pry the vault off of my nightstand with a prybar or screw driver with just a little effort, I guess that would be my only con in this review. All in all, I can't list anything that I don't like about it, I've had mine for about two months now and I'm still happy with it, and the price was reasonable too. Hope this helps.

Great Pistol Safe for Quick Access
It works great, opens fast, and makes my house more safe for my kids without compromising my ability to quickly be armed in the event that it's required. Main pros and cons: + Opening time is good, even compared to biometric. I have mine set with a six-digit code. The codes can be 4-6 digits. It takes about 3 seconds for me to enter the code and one more second for it to fully drop open, so a total of 4 seconds to gun in hand. + When it opens, it has a light that makes the gun handle visible in the dark but without being so bright as to overly affect night vision. I would say that the light intensity is perfect. - It does make more noise as it opens than I'd prefer when it opens the latch and then when it hits the rubber stop. - It was fairly easy to install, but did require a bit of patience. All in all, when I buy another pistol safe for a ready access weapon I will probably stick to this design as opposed to the biometric (fingerprint) version due to the lower price and my satisfaction with the opening time. One caution... As with all things concerning gun safety and proficiency, I recommend practicing with accessing the weapon. This will make sure that you're ready in the event that quick access is required. You don't want to need it at night only to find that you can't locate it in the dark or forget the password.

Great little safe
The instructions could be better. For example, there is a rubber bumper/foot on a small metal bracket that is included in the parts bag, yet the instructions don't even mention it being included, let alone what to do with it. Well, a little brainpower and I figured out it's to keep the drawer from slamming open against the hinge when the box opens. I won't detract a star, but the instructions are "meh." But it's the product itself I'm reviewing and it is fabulous. The mounting bracket/method is so simple, yet effective. The safe mounts from the back or the left/right sides. The only possible drawback for a user is that it must be mounted upright as it depends on gravity to make the door "fall open" after the lock releases. I realize some folks have mounted it sideways and if it works for them, then great, but it's not a recommended mounting method. When I press the buttons I want this thing to open and now; not taking any chances. The fact that you can have multiple buttons count as "one digit" of the combination is a huge plus and adds substantially to the possible number of combinations you can have. The main reason you buy a small safe like this is not to prevent someone from stealing your gun. Unless you mount it to a concrete wall with toggle bolts, you can probably kick the safe free and walk away with it. The reason you buy this safe is to keep the little, curious ones from finding your handgun in your desk drawer and the unthinkable happening. Solid safe, functions very well, even has an LED light inside that stays on for about 10 seconds after the door opens. Highly recommended. Added some pictures of how I have it installed. As you can see...or not....you can't really see it even when you're looking right at it. Very happy with this product.

I like it
Appears to be a really great way to keep a gun accessible and out of the hands of little kids. I'm under no impression that this will stop a burglar from stealing my firearm (hopefully the concealed location with help with that), but it's certainly sturdy enough to keep my young son from gaining access under normal circumstances. It's better to think of this as a strong deterrent, not something that will stop a determined individual. Depending on the age of your children, their behavior, and your trust in them, this may or may not be right for you. A large flathead screw driver would open this in minutes, if not seconds. The safe I received works exactly as you would expect. Enter a code and the drawer drops down presenting the firearm. I find the safe opens reliably after entering my personalized code. I found it very easy to customize my personalized entry code and to turn off the key tones. I have not attempted to turn on the tamper settings (will stop excepting codes after 20+ failed tries to open it and will notify you if someone has attempted to open the safe), but like the idea that these feature exist. I mounted my safe to the wall in a concealed location, putting two screws into a stud, and using heavy drywall anchors for the other two screws. I did not use the smaller screws that came with the safe, I used significantly longer and thicker screws I already had on hand. The safe feels very securely mounted, and I have no concerns that it would come loose over time. I'm not sure how I'd feel with the much smaller screws provided. My only issue with the safe is that you need to be patient while entering your code. You can't just key in your entry as fast as you want, but need to wait about half a second between keys. That doesn't seem like a big deal, but in the event you need your gun, you may not remember to be a little patient or you might just have a hard time judging your timing. This could slightly delay access to your gun, which could be a big problem. This can be overcome by simply making all the entry keys after the first entry the same (ex. "3, 2, 2, 2" OR "4, 2+4, 2+4, 2+4"). If you enter in a code too quickly you can just keep pushing the same key/keys until it registers all the entries and unlocks the safe. There have been some criticisms regarding the battery dying and the owner being unaware, which is a significant issue that could impact reliable access to your firearm. I bought a lithium 9v for longer life, but plan to change it out every 6 months. I'll test the safe occasionally to make sure the battery is still working (if that battery dies you can still open the safe using the key, but this wouldn't be ideal for quick or reliable access). If the battery doesn't last 6 months I'll be pretty discouraged and report back, but I expect it will last at least that long.

Gunvault SpeedVault SV500 gun safe
First of all this is a great product. I read a lot of reviews before my purchase and I felt confidnet that it would meet my needs. That's the most important thing to recognize with something like this, does it meet my needs. I don't like calling this a safe. To me a safe is an object that will keep my property safe from being stolen, as many commenters have said it doesn't look like it would take much to pry this open if you wanted whats hidden inside bad enough. There are a lot of comments about the included wood screws being too short to secure it to wood. They are short, the wood on a nightstand is only a half inch thick so anything longer would end up driving into your drawer making your nightstand useless. I've seen a lot of people talk about using bigger hardware and running bolts with nuts through their dressers. that's great but what do you do about the #8 thumb screws that hold the body of the holder to the frame you just bolted down? All I'm trying to say is that if someone breaks into your house and see's this thing if they have simple tools they can get it to pop off. Also this offers no protection agaisnst fire. That being said, I don't think that's the primary goal of this product, it's more designed to keep little hands out but still allowing your hands to get access very quickly. It is plenty heavy enough to keep kids out. The buttons press very easily and offer a positive feel that the button has been pressed even without looking at the light or having the tones turned on. The instant that a good code has been put in the mechinism drops open. The mechanics do make a little noise when it opens but the biggest consern I have is that the tray with your gun in it just drops open onto a small rubber bumper. The placement of the hinge on the tray is such that a lot of the weight of the tray and gun makes it drop onto the bumper with a lot of force. It's not so much that I worry about the gun falling out or anything, the only reason I feel this is a bad thing is that when it hits the bumper it makes a fair amount of noise and also rattles any items that may be on my nightstand. Maybe this isn't an issue if you mount it to a wall or have a cleaner dresser but I wasn't expecting it. Of course the good part of this is that as soon as you put the code in the gun is right there ready to grab. I still would like to see it open a little softer so it doesn't make so much noise, you don't want to draw attention to your room if you hear someone in your house. Another feature I wish this had was a little more space inside the tray. It has a very nice moulded foam sleave that has a cutout in it for the muzzle of the gun to slide into which for my XD9 was a perfect fit. Not loose at all but not so tight you can't pull it out. I wish there was room in it to cut another square out of the foam to place an extra magazine. It's almost got enough room now but not quite. Also if you have a lazer or light on the rail it won't fit into the foam without trimming some away. I don't think this is a problem at all, it seems like it would be easy to cut any shape to fit. Maybe with a smaller gun there would be room to customize a little better but as it is a full frame pistol is all it'll hold. Very easy to install, change batteries, set a proper code, and access the contents. This is absolutly perfect for keeping children out while allowing very quick and easy access to your protection device. It also conseals in your room a lot better than a table top safe which screams I have something improtant inside me so steal me first and it is easier to access than a drawer safe that you have to clear three pair of socks off of just to get down too it. Plus this thing puts your gun in your hand so much easier than having to try to pick it up off the bottom of a safe. the way the tray is cut and the foam is cut leaves the entire handle exposed and in a possition to grab it quickly and properly without fumbling around inside a safe trying to get your hand under the grip. As far as long life testing, that's still to be determined but with Gunvault you know you're getting good customer support and a well known brand in the safe world. I'd say they hit a homerun with this one.

UNSAFE!
I have a large gun safe for my hunting and sporting firearms, and take firearm safety very seriously. I have a adult child with a mental disorder, and never want her to have access to a weapon. We live in an area where home invasion has become a genuine risk, and for more reasons than I can go into here, I believe the area is risky enough that carrying a firearm is an important part of keeping my family, my home and myself safe. I have purchased 2 safes from Gunvault - the GVB 2000 and the SV 500 Manual. The 2000 Biometric as a safe place for my every day carry weapon and the SV Manual to keep another gun close to my nightstand. The Biometric safe was set up to accept only my fingerprint and the SV 200 has a 4 pad keypad that is programmed to accept a code before opening. I have followed all installation instructions, and have double-checked my work. NEITHER SAFE WORKS AS ADVERTISED. The biometric safe opens with any persons fingerprint. The Manual unsafe opens if someone holds down a single key for about 10 seconds. As a result, I believe the biometric safe is entirely unsafe - any child, including my own grandkids, out of curiosity, could place their finger on the fingerprint reader, and if they we lucky enough to touch the other release button, could have access to the safe's content. Finally - I've tried contacting Gunvault's customer service department using the phone number included in the included manual. At any point of the day - I've been told via recording that the wait time would be at least 60 minutes. This message happens EVERY SINGLE TIME I've called them. (the phone number is set to pacific standard time). Before purchasing, I read other's reviews, and saw that many are happy with the products. I've also read other reviews that said there were malfunctions, and that customer service was nonexistent. As more reviews were favorable - I chose to purchase. I completely regret my purchase, and want others to know that Gunvault's service is horrible, and from this reviewer's perspective - THE PRODUCTS I PURCHASED ARE UNSAFE for anyone to use to keep their firearm from someone that should not have access. DO NOT PURCHASE THESE PRODUCTS!

Super Waffentresor

Very secure, easy to hide
I was able to install mine into a double stud, so all four bolts are sunk deep into wood. No ones getting that off my wall. Narrow enough to fit behind my bed. I turned off the beeps so a would be burglar wouldn't know what I am doing. I think this is a great safe. Only thing that would be nice, as a Canadian I am not allowed to store my firearm loaded. I would have liked it if there was a slot or place I could store more clip. I don't want to leave it ontop of the vault as I have a young son that I don't need playing with that. But other than that. Great product!

works well, meets storage laws
Works well, there is a slight delay from entering code to opening, maybe around 1 sec or less. Very simple to use, has a mute mode which I like, as I end up ripping the speakers out any gun safes that beep anyways. can be mounted a number of ways, I have it mounted to bedside drawer, fits a fullsize M&P with just enough room to squeeze a mag beside the grip. Meets the requirements for safe storage in Canada with a loaded mag outside of gun which is a plus. I bought this from the seller Coinkosz who shipped it from the USA, there was a hiccup with UPS where they wanted to charge $70+ COD for brokerage/taxes/duty (shows up when you track it with a UPS account, lets you pre-pay). I contacted them and they replied very quickly on a Saturday morning and they worked out everything with UPS. It was delivered the following Monday without issue. They were extremely polite/courteous and prompt in their dealings with me. I highly recommend them if they sell more.

excellent gun vault
excellent gun vault, compliant with Canadian law, good quality and very functional it fits a full size pistol and at least 2 mags (mags loaded with ammo but not in the gun - Canada) I had to cut out the foam to make space for 2 mags under the gun. The led light is very helpful. Overall: highly recommended product.
