Q: Does this have holes at the bottom/base ?

Yes. You can see them in photos which accompany my 15th October 2020 review - one photo looks down into the drainer/utensil pot, another shows it upside down.

Q: does it break easily like ceramic?

It's chunky and thick, and made of very sturdy plastic (melamine). I doubt you could break it.

Q: Does it have holes at the bottom for draining?

Yes it does have drain holes (the reply sayig 'no' from J Hester, 23rd Dec. 2016, is incorrect). You can see the drain holes in photos which accompany my 15th October 2020 review - one photo looks down into the drainer/utensil pot, another shows it upside down.

Q: I wanted it in black.....is this near enough or too obviously grey

See the photo by reviewer Ploomy on Oct 18, 2020, who bought Black. It's a good quality drainer/utensil holder, maybe buy it and if it doesn't suit then return it. Returns are easy peasy if the order was "Fulfilled by Amazon" and usually free. Under the 2015 Consumer Rights Act you have an 'automatic right to reject' an item (under distance-selling) up to 30 days from date of purchase/ordering), and can return it for a full refund whether or not it's faulty, ideally in the original packaging so it can be sold on. There may or may not be a charge for returning it, but usually with Amazon fulfilling an order it's free.
