Mastering the Midgame (Everyman Chess)

Ideal middlegame book to learn more advanced ideas
This book contains a collection of advanced, more complex middlegame ideas. I am an intermediate player and found all of this material stimulating and useful, although I think a second read is required to absorb it all. The layout is excellent and clear, with game fragments used to show each middlegame concept. This book is like a second volume to Kinsman's Improve Your Middlegame, but more advanced, with much deeper analysis, and aimed at stronger players. For example, sacrificing pawns and pieces to gain positional advantages, something which weaker players would probably not consider. This is an excellent book for club players looking to improve their middlegame. Also recommended: Understanding the Sacrifice (Dunnington) - this is like a continuation of this book but covering all types of sacrifices.Chapters:1 Attacking the KingThe King in the Centre, Castling on opposite wings, Eliminating Defenders2 Defending - Keep CalmDefence, Counterattack, The Knockout Blow, Nobody's Perfect3 Opening LinesInfiltration, The Diagonal4 Using the PiecesThe Rook on the Seventh Rank, The Queen Sacrifice, Bishops vs Knights, Opposite-Coloured Bishops5 Using the PawnsStructural Strengths & Weaknesses, The Power of the d-pawn, The Pawn Break, Sacrificing a Piece for Pawns6 Further IdeasCreating and Using Outposts, The Colour Complex, Piece Placement, Complex Situations
