A good choice to start with when learning to knit socks
Patons is generally very affordable and comes in a lot of different colors. I absolutely loved the Celestial colorway and it made some beautiful random striping patterns in the finished socks. That said, the price is high on Amazon normally (I snagged it on sale), especially given you need 2 balls for a pair of socks. It is also not the softest sock yarn, but it is probably not fair to compare this to Merino or other soft wools. The tradeoff is high durability, and the finished socks are still very comfortable. So far holding up well through skateboarding and harsh washer/dryer cycles.

sock yarn
i have crocheted all my socks and at times used any old yarn and now i see the difference between 100% acrylic or polyester and the wool blend of pattons regular sock and kroy sock yarn. it takes a while to crochet a pair of socks - small stitches make for more comfortable socks - so i'm not going to waste my time on anything but pattons yarn. the design patterns are built in and the colors are great. i wash in the machine with cold water and dry on a small clothes rack - never in the dryer,,,i don't care what the label says. the dryers here in my apartment complex just have one setting - very hot.

It’s a great sock yarn
Initially I didn’t like this yarn because it was splitty. I love it now, it’s a bit thicker than other sock yarns I have, it’s inexpensive and it lasts a long time. I wish the other cokorways were easier to find

Beautiful sturdy socks
I've been knitting socks for over 25 years, and this yarn made the most beautiful socks I've ever knitted. When I finished the first pair I ordered more yarn for another pair. This is not a summer sock or a lightweight sock.I knit this on size 1 dpn needles, and it's a comfortable and warm and durable sock. Order two skeins for a pair of socks; one will not make a pair unless you're knitting for a child, but three skeins would make incredible calf-high adult boot socks. This is not a soft and SILKY yarn, but it's soft enough for a scarf or cowl. High quality, i.e. no knots or separated strands or weird uneven thicknesses. Fabulous colors, with a soft and gradual change; no harsh lines or stripes from one color to the next. Highly recommended for a warm winter hat or cardigan.

Color was nothing like the picture
I got this, hoping it was somewhat close to what I had, after running too low to complete a second sock. Had the Kroy sock yarn for years, so knew I was taking a risk. I didn’t particularly like the yarn, but wanted to use it from my stash . The texture feels better, but color is way off the picture. Would cost half of the price to return it, so stashing it goes.

Great Sock Yarn!
I've been using Patons Kroy sock yarn for more years than I can remember. It's soft, doesn't itch and wears like iron. I machine wash (warm) and dry (low) items knitted with Kroy and have no problems with pilling or shrinkage. I love the variety of colors available and the price is very reasonable for this type of yarn.
