Buy if you have a lot of time to Spare
Please don't buy this. I was fooled by all the reviews over internet. This thing is extremely hard to configure. After so much time and effort some how I was able to reach the configuration window. I tried to set the device as a universal repeater. I did everything as per the instruction. Tried using both the existing SSID name and a new one. After reboot the new SSID is showing but once you connect its showing limited connectivity. Tried at least 15 times, did hard reset still same result. I am planning to return the device and demand a full refund. From my experience I think I should claim for compensation for wasting my time and effort.UPDATEFinally..after a night of sleep deprivation, I solved the mystery. Always use the same network security settings as those for the existing network. Keep that checked. At the time of configuration, change your computer/ipad/any device ip address to 192.168.1.3. Now the device is working, but its hard to configure and works only in the way the repeater intends..Dont change any settings in the configuration window after setup, you will need a hard reset after that and start from step 1 again..

LARGE PROPERTY COVERAGE—NO HASSLE
After comparing feature to feature and data analysis across the board I determined I was getting a whole lot more product for the money than some of the other top recognized brands. When it comes to network hardware I am kind of a “Linksys” guy, but I don’t mind getting out of my box; such was this product. My first and second gut feeling was to go with a top recognized consumer brand name. But after doing some Googling I discovered many other brands and considered some descent third-party review ratings. Because of this product being a digital tech item I was more interested in objective analysis than subjective thoughts and product opinions. The installation wasn’t as easy as I had hoped for but after calling a tech support line and only holding a few minutes I was up and running. The technician was helpful, well spoken, patient and very knowledgeable of his product. I am a very computer savvy guy, but some of the reviews did indicate there were little instructions, and many had a issues getting things going. I found this to be true, but once the technician walked me through the process I could do it again in my sleep. This is a great product that more than delivered.I live on a church campus with several structures. The Westell (Frontier Communications) router/wireless transceiver is located in our Fellowship Hall, and I am two structures to the north. We have a lot of wireless issues especially since they replaced the transceiver with a newer model. In my home we have several wireless products we had given up on. But after careful study and reading some reviews, not all from Amazon, I purchased this product. Now, my signal is great. Before we could barely use our Kindle and only in certain spots at certain times along with a host of other wireless issues. Today we are back downloading movies and such with all our devices very quickly. I would strongly recommend this product. The signal is very strong, consistent and reliable hour after hour, day after day.

Cannot recommend this product
I bought this unit because of the "ease of setup" claimed by the other reviewers. I now wonder if they bought the same product I did.First off, the documentation is abysmal, and the tech support is even worse. I'm typically pretty good at these things, having been in the industry for many years (now retired), but I couldn't even find a support phone number anywhere in the supplied materials. There is no documentation about what the buttons do on the unit, and the initial setup procedure is missing some key steps: the main one being that you first have to CONNECT (via your wireless network on your PC) to the wireless device before you can do any of the admin stuff, and that during this time you are disconnected to your wireless router. The only way I could configure the unit was to hard connect it to my router via the LAN cable. Their documentation says to just plug in the unit and then access it via 192.168.1.2. It doesn't work that way. When(If) you get it to work, don't try to mess with anything on the admin pages. Every time you make a change, it has to "apply" the change. Once this process starts, the unit goes dark. You have to re-boot the unit to get back to the admin page.Right now, the unit is not working, and I'm trying to figure out why. I can connect to the admin page via the LAN port, but can no longer connect via the wireless, and it doesn't appear to be working with my network. No helpful documentation - no tech support. The the best thing I can say about this unit is that when it does work, it works well.I cannot recommend you buy this unit.UPDATE: I did get the unit to work, and here is what I had to do:1) Turn off all of my wireless devices2) Connect the unit via the LAN to my router3) Verify that I could connect/login to the admin page from my main computer (also connected via a LAN cable)4) Log out of the unit (without doing ANYTHING on the admin page)5) Disconnect the unit from the LAN.6) Unplug the unit & put it in the part of the house where I need it7) Plug the unit in, wait for the Key to light up (steady) & wait 10 minutes8) Turn on all of my wireless devices, and make sure they connect to the networkI can't tell you what step actually was the critical one, but in most cases turning off everything, and then turning everything back on is a good idea (regardless of what you are messing with). If you do purchase this unit, good luck. I would recommend that you use the above procedure the first time you try to set it up.Final Update: The unit again stopped working. I'm returning it for a refund.

excellent signal, nightmare to configure
5 stars for functionality; 1 star for configuration.I was leery of this product- the Amazon reviews were mixed. There were enough poor reviews to discourage purchase but very few reviews actually included a Model/Version number- something I realized when I started looking at reviews for other ZyXel products. Amazon seems to have lumped all the ZyXel products of a similar nature together. I left questions on Amazon but no one responded to the specific models I was inquiring about so I called ZyXel on Feb 9, 2015.I gave the sales rep the details of my needs- that the Verizon Actiontec router was too distant for my iPad to stream to the Apple TV located our our exercise room and that the TiVos' streams also stuttered due to the router's distance. The sales person told me that the solution was to order Model WAP3204 v2 and set it up as a repeater. He stressed version 2 and said it could be set up to operate on the same SSID as my Verizon FiOS router.I asked if the set up could be done on a Mac computer and he assured me that it could. He said if I had any problems with the config to dial 800-255-4101 ext5, which is their tech support. I placed my order with Amazon on the 9th and the product (WAP3205 v2) arrived the night of the 11th. I spent an hour with the manual. The next day I started configuration at 8am EST. No luck after 30 min. The office did not open until 11AM EST which means I spent another 2-1/2 hours fiddling with product and User Manual until I could reach Tech Support.I am well versed in networks, routers, macs and windows and not intimidated with technology.I had a pleasant "plug and play" experience with the "ZyXEL Powerline AV 500 Mbps Wall-Plug Adapter Starter Kit with 2 Units (PLA4215KIT)" but they only have one ethernet out connection and I needed 2-3 ethernet connections and a wireless range "extender" in the exercise room. Here is my experience with the ZyXel WAP3205 v2 Wireless N300 Access Point that shipped on Feb 10, 2015 from Amazon.1. No printed user manual was shipped with this product.2. No user manual could be found on ZyXel.com site (as directed to by the Quick Start Guide)3. A CD was shipped with the product and it did have a user manual but the CD was not Mac OS compatible. I found the CD's contents by borrowing a friend's PC. The CD had an .exe file and I was able to copy the User Manual over to a jump drive where I opened it on my Mac OS 10.10.2. The User Manual is 192 pages and is not well laid out.4. The product's built-in admin software is very slow to respond and the screens hangIn order to configure this product as a repeater, the manual instructs you to start with section 5, then go to section 11 (which begins 5 pages of the LAN Profile setup instructions) and then go to section 4.6 (which begins 7 pages of the WAN Profile setup instructions). The diagrams in section 4 show that this product is ethernet connected to a computer and the router. However, the product failed to connect to 192.168.1.2 in the UR (repeater) mode. When I retried it in AP mode I was able to access the product's admin software interface and log in. However, the screen would not advance. It just reloaded. The user manual does not explain how to get the software to advance after successful log in. It assumes you can click your way to advance to the config screen but that screen was not accessible to me by clicking the NEXT button after logging it. The screen after the log-in screen has a GO button but that button did not take me to another page- it just refreshed the same page.I spent the next 2 hours following the complex manual instructions- to no avail. As a last resort I hit the factory RESET button. I was extremely disappointed to find that did not help at all. In fact, after that, I could not even access 192.168.1.2 in AP mode like I was able to do at an earlier point. At 11:02 am EST, I called Tech Support and spent 16 minutes on hold. The tech that answered was very knowledgeable. He had me disconnect the repeater from my router and computer and move it into the far back room where it was to be used. He then had me go into my computers TCP/IP settings and configure the dynamic IPv4 Address over to manual address using a specific IP address he provided. He talked me through browser relaunches (we tried both Safari and Chrome) and the product reset (three times) and offered excellent step-by-step guidance over the 40 minutes that resulted in eventually configuring the product as a repeater. After the call was completed I had some problems with the Apple TV not connecting over the ethernet connection and the TiVo units not connecting over the ethernet. I tried the WIFI and they connected. Next I restarted all devices and tried the ethernet again. No luck with ethernet or WIFI. One more restart and I was finally able to gain Internet access. At the end of everything I was able to use this product in UR mode for 2 wireless devices (Wii and iPad) and 2 ethernet devices (TiVo and Apple TV).I tested the traffic over all the connections and was extremely satisfied with the strength of the signal and the speed of the connections.CONCLUSION: This product required a complex set of instructions to configure it in repeater (UR) mode. The 192 page manual did not present the same config instructions that Tech Support walked me through. Even following very specific Tech Support guidance it took a great deal of time, restarts, resets and browser relaunches (both Chrome and Safari were tried more than a few times). The tech indicated these were not unexpected behaviors and was very patient in asking me to start the process over again when the product's admin software got stuck in a screen and would not advance.

Not Easy to Install, But Works
I had considerable trouble trying to install it in the Universal Repeater (UR) mode. I finally had to contact a tech support guy in CA, who was very helpful. When I described the problem I was having, he immediately asked what kind of security I was using on my existing wifi network. When I told him WEP, he said the product will not work with that, as it is too insecure, and I should change it to WPA2. Next, I had been unable to see the Zyxel in the UR mode when attached by cable to my computer. He advised me to be certain the switch was exactly on the correct setting by wiggling it to be sure. When I did that I could then see it in the UR mode, and could see the installation wizard (which had not been available when I had logged in in the client mode). After switching my Uverse router to WPA2 secutiry and using the installation wizard on the ZyXel, it installed correctly in the UR mode and I linked it up to my Uverse router wifi network. Because I only needed one computer in the room farthest from my Uverse router to use the ZyXel repeated network, I gave it a different name from my Uverse wifi network. (The ZyXek automatically uses the same SSID name and security access as your original wifi network unless you change the name as I did, and that apparently works for most people.)I have a 12 MB link and all my devices are wireless, Previously, the best speed I had gotten on the far away computer was about 7MB, and most often only about 3MB. I previously tried using a Lynksys N300 Range Extender, and could never get it to work with a reliable signal to this far off computer. So I gave up on the Linksys, and have been living with the slower speed. Out of frustration I decided to try the ZyXel. Setting the ZyXel between my Uverse router and my far computer, I am now getting 10-11 MB speed and am a happy camper. I would give the ZyXel a five star rating except for the difficulty in installation, but I was very pleased with their tech support and am delighted with the product now that it is working as planned. Don't know how well it would work in the other modes, but is certainly working well in the UR mode. Therefore, I highly recommend it as a wifi range extender.

This product is a complete waste of time and money
DO NOT BUY THIS ITEM.This product is a complete waste of time and money. Like most other reviewers have commented, the "Quick Start Guide" is an absolute joke. Think of the worst IKEA product assembly manual then have a 5 year old rewrite it and that's what they give you. What they don't tell you is that you need at least 50% signal strength from your current wireless router for the ZyXEL product to work. I purchased this product for the Universal Repeater Mode to boost signal strength in my most used room of my house (which gets 20% signal strength). Hey ZyXEL geniuses, why on Earth would I purchase your product if my signal strength is over 50%?You'll need to call their customer service to have a shot at setting this up. Credit to where credit is due, their agents on the phone are great. Super nice and courteous and walked me through the set up (twice). Once I got the product set up the first time, it decided to stop working 5 minutes later. I called back and the agents tell me it's an issue with my primary wireless router and to disable the "auto channel" feature. OK, done. I called back to ZyXEL to find they're closed! By the way, their tech support hours are equally awful (Monday-Friday 8am-5pm PST, also known as WHEN EVERYONE WHO PURCHASES YOUR PRODUCT IS WORKING). But have no fear, the phone agent tells me they work until 7pm for home products. I called them at 5:30 and no one is there. Sent them Facebook & Twitter messages for customer service and get no response. I work over an hour away from home and had to take time off to set this product up, twice.I finally call back another business day and another agent troubleshoots with me for an hour only to come to the conclusion that the product is defective.I will be getting a full refund for this product and spending my money with another company. This product works great if you like flashing lights and expensive paperweights, because that's pretty much all it's good for.
