Good fertilizer, great animal repellent
I've used blood meal before, so I know what it can do for crops. But the animal repellent aspect was new to me and quite a nice bonus. This is largely what I use as an organic fertilizer component for my green crops such as spinach, swiss chard, kale, and my herbs. It's fantastic but you have to watch how much you put on. I haven't ever had any burn issues, but you can over fertilize and have things grow faster than they should. Just top dress the crop before a rain and let nature take it's path. The upside of course is that the deer and raccoons that have been pestering my garden are now warded off. I could live trap the coons and try to fence out the deer, but not always with great success, and certainly with quite a bit of time and energy. So far this year and to the best of my knowledge, I haven't lost any crops to the woodsy friends. The coons stayed away from the root crops and the deer left the spinach alone. These were the two crops that were the most seductive. My neighbor still has problems and I still see them around, but they just aren't hitting my garden this year.

So far all is good!
I've been sprinkling Blood Meal around all my hostas and day lilies every 2-3 weeks since my 50# bag arrived mid-April. We live in the middle of 50 acres of woods in NJ, with a high deer population. We have seen deer around the periphery of our property since I started doing this, but thus far, NO deer damage - and they have killed plants by completely devouring all the foliage in past years. If I see that a couple leaves have been nibbled, it's time to apply the next round of blood meal.Even with shipping costs, this is more economical than many of the deer repellants if you need a reasonably large quantity, and seems to work pretty well. Now, could someone please tell me how to deter slugs from eating my hostas?!

So far, so good
The bag arrived as promised and was definitely a full 50 pounds of blood meal. So far so good as we have seen no deer returning to eat our nice grass and trees. It maybe a coincidence, but even if the blood meal is not scaring the deer away, it will surely work to help our trees and grass grow in stronger in the spring.

Organic blood meal great for lawns
I've been using blood meal on my lawn for a few years now and must say it's a great way to avoid fertilizer contamination of our waterways. It also feeds the dirt, grass, bugs, birds, squirrels and anyone else who happens to wander by a good organic source of nutrient (super critical in these times when everyone wants to use water soluble chemical nutrients). It's my belief that chemical nutrients are the source of many of todays ailments (cancer, light bladder leakage, crohn's disease and many others and keeping our vegetation and animals clean is the first step to healing ourselves and our land). Product spread easily with rotary spreader and came packaged in a brown paper as well as a plastic bag.

Good stuff.
I got a bag of this for a couple of different applications. The first is my hot compost. I use this mixed with oak tree leaves to get a really hot compost cooking. The end results are always superb. The other application is for a quick and easy nitrogen fertilizer. It can be applied directly to the soil, or included in soil mixes prior to planting.

Bang for the Buck
This is literally the cheapest option to buy blood meal in bulk. Tack on free shipping (which, by the way, the product arrived sooner than I expected...a good thing), and you have a gardener's dream deal. The product itself by all appearances was just like any other blood meal product I've purchased. The package arrived secure and was easy to open. I started a Back to Eden style no dig garden last year, and I'm hoping the blood meal will help complete the decomposition of the wood chips. Great product and even better price!

Expensive
I paid $72.50 with shipping for a waste product. It’s a great product, but I don’t understand why it’s so expensive. As a business owner who plans on using this type of product regularly, I think I’ll try to find a local source. I can’t pay that every time I need the stuff.

A lot of bloodmeal
This is a lot of blood meal. It is a pretty hot source of nitrigen so don't spread it too heavily.I purchased this to discourage deer and rabbits from grazing in my landscape garden. I have a .5 acre yard. It seems to have worked for the deer - they still pass through but don't stop to browse. Rabbits disappeared but they are back now. However it seems to have attracted foxes and neighborhood dogs.I still have half a bag left and I have to seal it up tightly to keep my daughters dog from going into the garage when she and her dog comes over to walk.
