Efficient Cleaning Partner with a Power Consumption Caveat: A Review of the eufy RoboVac 30C
In the ever-evolving world of home automation, the eufy RoboVac 30C has emerged as a reliable and efficient cleaning companion that promises to simplify the chore of maintaining a clean living space. With its impressive cleaning performance, this robotic vacuum has undoubtedly become a game-changer for busy households. However, it's crucial to be aware of its power consumption nuances. Here's my comprehensive review of the eufy RoboVac 30C, highlighting its cleaning prowess and the considerations regarding power consumption. From the moment I set up the eufy RoboVac 30C, its user-friendly design and effortless operation were evident. The initial setup process was straightforward, and the vacuum's compact profile allowed it to navigate effortlessly around furniture and other obstacles. The inclusion of boundary strips provided a convenient way to define cleaning zones, ensuring that the vacuum focused on the intended areas. The standout feature of the eufy RoboVac 30C is undoubtedly its cleaning performance. Equipped with strong suction and dual side brushes, this robotic vacuum tackled a variety of floor types and surfaces with remarkable efficiency. The dustbin capacity proved to be ample enough for several cleaning cycles before requiring emptying, making it a convenient option for homes with pets or frequent foot traffic. The navigation technology employed by the RoboVac 30C, such as drop-sensing and infrared sensors, effectively prevented the vacuum from tumbling down stairs or getting stuck in tight spots. This ensured that the cleaning process was largely hassle-free and required minimal intervention. However, it's important to address the caveat of power consumption. While the eufy RoboVac 30C's efficiency is commendable when it comes to cleaning, its power consumption is notably higher than some other models. This can translate to potentially higher energy bills over time, which should be factored into the decision-making process. It's advisable to weigh the convenience of a robotic vacuum against its impact on electricity consumption.Despite this consideration, the eufy RoboVac 30C remains a valuable addition to any home looking to streamline their cleaning routine. Its efficient cleaning performance, user-friendly operation, and intelligent navigation make it an effective tool for maintaining a tidy living environment. However, potential buyers should take into account their energy consumption priorities and budget constraints when deciding whether this model aligns with their needs. In conclusion, the eufy RoboVac 30C offers efficient cleaning prowess and convenience, making it a practical solution for busy households seeking to delegate cleaning tasks. Its thorough cleaning capabilities and navigational intelligence are commendable. However, users should be mindful of its power consumption characteristics, ensuring that the benefits of automation align with their energy consumption priorities. With thoughtful consideration, the eufy RoboVac 30C can be an asset that contributes to a more manageable and tidy living space.

Better than expected, seems like a great value
I've never owned a robotic vacuum before, but I love gadgets and we just moved into a new home so it seemed like it was time. I considered more expensive offerings from Roomba etc, but consumer reports and other sites rate this one as highly or higher than a lot of the more expensive ones so I thought I'd give it a go.I'll start with first impressions and update as time goes on.First Impressions:The packaging was honestly really good and the materials that everything is made of were surprisingly good. Like I expected a lot more plastic and cheap parts, but it feels like they used really good materials, like glass on the top, good quality magnetic strips, etc. It looks good enough to leave docked out in the open (which the instructions recommend). Having never owned one from another brand, I can't compare, but I can't imagine they would be any nicer. It also comes with everything you need, and maybe even don't need, like batteries for the remote, sticky pads for the magnetic strips, zip ties to clean up cables, and a useful tool to clean gunk out of the brush if needed (more on that later).Setup was really easy. Basically plug it in, put it on the dock, and connect it using the app. Same as other wifi connected things. I will say however that the app is no frills, and lacks some basic good UI features. Stuff like you can't set a schedule for multiple days at once, you have to set each day independently. I wouldn't take off too many points for this since I don't expect a lot of functionality out of it, and I don't really have to mess with it much so the UI stuff doesn't get in the way much. I have also had some challenges where the app will frequently say the vacuum isn't connected, even though I know it has plenty of battery and is near the router. It only supports 2.4 GHz, which is kind of a bummer since most of my devices use 5, so maybe that's the issue. It's not a huge pain since I mostly let it run automatically, but I guess if you were away from home and wanted to start it manually, you might have issues. So far it seems to clean pretty well. I followed it around the whole first run and it did a pretty good job, although it doesn't necessarily seem to be the smartest thing I've ever seen. It doesn't follow much of a pattern, but it will sometimes follow a wall, and if it comes to a pillar or chair leg or something it will go all the way around before continuing. It might clean a small portion of one room before leaving to go clean somewhere else, so it may not complete a room in a single go (at least on automatic mode, there is a room mode). It makes me want to complain, but at the same time, it does seem to get everywhere eventually, so I can't say it misses things. It will leave zigzag lines on your carpet, but it surprisingly actually looks really clean and doesn't bother me.The first few runs it cleaned up A TON of stuff. I had no idea our house was that dirty honestly. Like we had to empty it every time it ran, and I did have to pick a bunch of hair out of it, which is a little annoying. The tool that comes with it makes it way easier, and the brush pops out easily, so even though it's a chore, it makes it as easy as possible for you. After a few runs, it started to pick up less stuff, so I guess that's the point of having it run every day, right? It's weird, it sometimes doesn't feel like it's doing that much, but after a few days I came home and was really surprised at how clean it made the house feel. Like there's just something about carpets that look vacuumed that make the whole house feel cleaner. On that point, I'm blown away. For a lot less money than other options, I feel like our house is noticeably cleaner without much work on our end.So for first impressions, I'm impressed. It's a solid vacuum that has done well for us so far. Just a few complaints, but it has definitely been worth it.Answers to some questions I had before buying:Will it scratch our hardwood floors? No, but it seems like if it ran over something that got stuck underneath it and drug it around, I guess that could. How long does it last? We have mostly hard wood, but some carpet and area rugs. We've been getting about an hour out of it I think, though I haven't timed it. That part is a little disappointing. I would be very surprised if you got 100 minutes like they claim.Does it get stuck easily? No... but it does get stuck if you don't take precautions. You'll have to pick up cords and other random crap you usually just leave on the floor. It's pretty powerful so it gets over most challenges, but we have had it get stuck on stuff we left lying around. Maybe cleaning that up is partially what makes it feel cleaner. Can it find its way home? We have a 1 story house with long hallways, but it still seems to find its way into the far rooms and can find its way back. It takes a long time to return home since it slows down, but I can tell it has a strategy that seems to work for it.Hopefully this helps. I would definitely recommend it so far, and will update after a few more weeks.UPDATE 12/31/18So we've had Eufy for a while now and I still think it was a great purchase. It's probably one of the dumber robot vacs, but it's still great in my opinion. It's basically just random, with a slight bit of method to the madness, but who cares if you're running it every day so it gets to every spot eventually anyway? It sometimes takes a while to get home, but so far for us it always gets home... unless it gets stuck. I think I said it above, but I'll say it again, you'll have to change some things to keep it from getting stuck. Leave stuff on the floor? Eufy might get stuck. Have a chair with an opening almost the same size as Eufy? If he gets in there, he might get stuck. That being said, we've gotten to the point where he really doesn't get stuck anymore since it's not hard to keep him out of those places, especially with the magnetic strip they give you. I don't know what else to say about it honestly. It's a dumb robot vac, but it's so darn cheap and works pretty well. I would probably get 2 of these before buying a more expensive iRobot or other brand.

buy this instead of a Roomba
【BACKGROUND】I've had a Roomba 671 for over a year. I want to list downsides to that first because it is typical of most Roomba-brand robotic vacs.【iRobot ROOMBA CONS】* LOUD - don't expect to watch TV while a Roomba is cleaning your room* only one sweeper brush so edges only got cleaned when it was traveling in one direction along a wall* sensor turret sticks above level of robot, causing it to bump into low furniture, sometimes getting stuck* horridly unreliable at docking - tended to shove the dock around, and debris (in a relatively clean home!) would cover the charging contacts, causing docking to fail* virtual walls required buying separate "towers" which were expensive and ate batteries【THE EUFY DIFFERENCE】First of all: if you've heard of "Anker" - makers of some of the best USB cables and powerbanks on the market - Eufy is Anker's home-product brand with items like smart light bulbs, plugs, switches, and robotic vacuums. I've had great luck with their USB products and when reading up on "ideal robovacs", they were consistently top of the list.【Eufy 30C PROS】* much quieter than Roomba* when returning to dock, suction shuts off and it is dead-silent* on approaching the charging base, it slows down to a crawl and navigates precisely* HEPA filter, with a spare included* double sweeper brushes, with spares included* Google Assistant and Alexa integration* physical remote control that sits in a divot on top of the charging dock and gives FULL control of the robot* magnetic strips for creating barriers (see explanation below)* app has been updated and controls all the functions the remote will (boost level, mode etc)【Eufy 30C CONS】* dock is functional but the power supply is ugly - it's a "wall wart" which Eufy tries to mitigate by having a cord wrap inside the dock - Roomba clearly has the advantage here with the power supply built into the dock and a simple, NEMA 2-pin plug going to the wall. I'd like to see Eufy re-design this.* not AS QUIET as some of the reviews would have you think. It *is* quieter than the Roomba but not dead silent, even on the "low" suction mode.* Google Home integration requires Google Assistant. You can't directly link Google Home to Eufy - it generates an error. Instead, you link Google Assistant with Eufy Home, then create a routine in Google Home to engage Google Assistant to control the vacuum. It's annoying to initially set up but in practice it works seamlessly - I still have a Home routine called "clean" that starts the Eufy Vac.【Details of Magnetic Barriers】Further explanation of one of my points: the magnetic strips. Ostensibly, you can peel the backing off and stick them to any hard surface. Turns out, you can even put them UNDER things, and cut the magnetic strip lengthwise. The instructions advise against this (likely because of reduced magnetic field strength not tripping the robot's sensors) but in practice, it works! I sliced a strip so it's about 1/3 its width and hid it in a floor transition strip (see photo of transition - the magnetic strip is right under there). It creates enough of a field the robot gets near and immediately turns around. Total game changer here - no need for multiple "towers" like you'd have for Roomba. You could even lift up carpet and hide these strips underneath, maybe cutting away some carpet underlay to ensure the magnetic strip sits flush.【CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDATION】It's clear there are some minor compromises with Eufy products but they're mostly aesthetic and not functional.I'd LIKE to have seen a prettier power supply for the base (simple plug, not a wall wart) and direct Google Home integration. In practice, those don't affect the vacuum at all - it just works, even better than Roomba, at a lower cost. Top marks.

An excellent option with great customer service
I'm writing this review about 11 months after purchasing this Robovac. We purchased this vac as we'd previously had a Deebot N79 that kept breaking. On average, that vacuum broke every 4-5 months. After our second replacement (3rd vacuum) our warranty was up and we needed to look for something else. This Eufy had great reviews so I gave it a try, and based on our previous experience I also sprung for the 3-year warranty which I would suggest to anyone who's gonna use it more than once a week. I'm glad I did, as our first Eufy just died after 11 months. However, the replacement experience was incredible. I called them two days ago, did not have to wait on the phone, they walked me through a few troubleshooting tips before determining it was toast. The representative then arranged a replacement. The replacement came YESTERDAY. It took 24 hrs to get a new vacuum, which is incredible service. As for the vacuum itself, it does a good job overall. It does not do well with long pile carpets but otherwise, it's great. The vacuum isn't too loud, however, we often run it when out of the house. With a big dog and a cat in our house, this thing gets used every day. If you run it consistently it will keep your house clean! Performance on low pile carpet is okay, but not amazing, you'll notice if you miss a few days in a row (if you have pets). I'm quite happy with the quality of the cleaning overall. It is frustrating that these things break so often. I'm assuming we will have to replace it again before our warranty is up and it's just so wasteful. Can someone please build something that lasts? I would pay for a subscription robovac service if it meant they actually fixed the damn things instead of just landfilling it. Eufy seems to be significantly better than Ecovacs in this department (and their customer service is light years ahead). However, it still broke after 11 months. All in all I'm happy with this vacuum but I'm very disappointed in the industry in general for making throw away products. Charge me $150 a year and just fix broken units, I'll be a happy camper. A decent robovac really does improve your life. If you don't vacuum as much as your wife would like you too, this will fix the problem :) I'll never go back.

Amazing support team!
Got this a few weeks ago and found the device easy to set up, get the app downloaded, and so on. The only challenge I had was that I couldn't find the Alexa skill on the Canadian store. Considering that was a big reason I got this device and not something else, that was a big drawback for me...especially since it's one of the most touted features. Thankfully, instead of just returning the device, I reached out to their support. They originally said that it should be working in Canada, but within a day had realized what their issue was - and then set about fixing it. They kept me in the loop on the entire process of finding the issue (the Skill hadn't been compiled with en-CA language settings, so it automatically didn't show up in the Canadian Skill store), through to debugging (we even went back and forth on what other settings the engineers might want to proactively look at to make things better for Canadian customers) and to testing the final solution when it came live. The best parts of the experience were: 1) they recognized that I was technical enough to be able to provide value to the conversation and kept me in the loop at all parts of the process, never 'dumbing it down'; 2) they communicated every step of the way; 3) during the ENTIRE process, they left the door open for me to return the device for a full refund, knowing that I hadn't bought something to be delayed in using it. It was FANTASTIC customer support - the sort I wish every company had! In the end, the entire process took just a couple of days to get resolved, and now everything works great. You can tell they really want to stand behind their product, but also want to make sure your experience using the RoboVac is a positive one in every way.Fingers crossed that they stay this dedicated to their customer base as they grow, but my experience with them at this point has been fantastic.Support aside, these are some of the other pros and cons:PROS:- Super quiet (at first I thought it wasn't picking up, but boy, was I wrong!)- Strong suction- Pretty good coverage (gets >90% of the space available to it)- Dual brushes get more at the edges and in hard-to-reach areas than the single brush that my old Roomba had- Simple setup- Easy-to-use app- Amazing support team!CONS:- No mapping functionality (but at this price point, that's to be expected)- Iconography isn't as simple as it could be (eg-spot clean and edge clean icons aren't the most obvious when you first see them...but once you know what they are, they do make sense)- Would be nice if the Alexa Skill could use the name you've given the device, instead of the more generic "RoboVac"...but I'm just reaching here for my pie-in-the-sky list. :)OVERALL:- Great buy that we're very happy with!PS - Since any robot vacuum with personality needs to be named (or so my wife tells me) we named ours Sukhwinder (because he sucks up dirt and he winds around obstacles!)

This RoboVac truly is a life changer
I have been using this little guy everyday for a week and am very impressed so far. His name is Kevin and he’s a cleaning fiend. The pros:-The battery life is awesome. I use it on the BoostIQ mode, which automatically switches from standard power to max power if it comes across a thicker surface, like a rug. It gets across my whole downstairs floor with battery to spare.-The noise level is UNREAL. I can’t hear it unless it’s directly in the same room as me. A couple times I’ve had to go looking for it because I thought maybe it died, but nope, it’s that quiet.-It’s able to go under surfaces I’ve never cleaned. My couches are extremely heavy so I don’t often move them to clean underneath, but this little guy got under there with no problem.--I love the 3 cleaning modes. There’s auto mode, which just goes around until the battery gets low. Then there’s edge clean, which allows the vacuum to get right up against a wall (or my personal favourite, the dining room table) and get whatever dirt and dust is lodged up against it. Finally, there’s spot clean, which allows the vacuum to focus on one area by going in a spiral for 2 minutes.--The simplicity of the remote and the EufyHome app. The best thing about the app is if there is ever an issue and something gets stuck in the roller brush or the sensors are dirty, it gives me a notification right away so I know exactly what the problem is. The remote states all of the controls on the back, and I use it to manually control the vacuum if there is a hard-to-maneuver area.-The Alexa capability: I simply need to ask Alexa to start the RoboVac or tell the RoboVac to go home. I feel like I’m living in a Black Mirror episode!-The box comes with an extra set of side brushes, a rolling brush cleaner (which is truly amazing), an extra filter, 13 feet of boundary tape, and cable ties. The team at Eufy truly want to give their customers the best experience. The cons:-The suction power is so strong that I have to clean the dust bin after each use, which can be a little tedious, especially if I’m using the vacuum right before I have guests coming over.-The only way to prevent it from going into an area is to use the boundary tape, which I’m not a huge fan of. I don’t want to have random pieces of tape scattered across my floor.Overall, I am VERY happy with this RoboVac. I have 3 birds that are very messy, and I previously had to vacuum daily to keep the mess they made at bay. But now I just turn this little guy on and resume my other daily activities. I don’t think I could go back to my previous routine after experiencing a week with a robotic vacuum, it really makes a huge difference.
