The Poetry of Science: The Poetry Friday Anthology for Science for Kids Paperback – December 1, 2015

Bought this for my 9 year old who had to read a poetry book for school. He liked it.

Great for out homeschool classroom. Perfect if you do poetry tea time or even if your child just enjoys poetry.

We are using this for our homeschool curriculum and we love it! The poems are fun and well thought out. Very cool.

We love this science-themed poetry collection and we are not poetry people at all. lol. I used it as part of a homeschool curriculum, but instead of following the curriculum, we sat down once a week to choose the poems that interested us and discuss them. My kids loved the pictures and getting to choose their favorite poems to read aloud.

Teachers and parents asked us to make a Children's Edition of THE POETRY FRIDAY ANTHOLOGY FOR SCIENCE (Teacher Edition) with the poems grouped by theme--all the Ecosystems poems together, Lab Safety poems together, Math poems together, etc. (instead of grouped by grade level). So we did, and this is it--with 30 more poems than the Teacher Edition! Kids always ask me, "What is your favorite (of your own) books?" For now I have to answer: THIS ONE! Maybe because this one is the brand-new baby, or maybe because I think the illustrations by Frank Ramspott and Bug Wang really fit the text perfectly. I hope you agree! Disappointed, especially for the price.I am an avid poetry lover and science lover so I was excited when a homeschooling curriculum used this book.It's an average, glossy paperback book, but with the price, I expected a higher quality paperback.The poems are OK. My kids (ages 4-11) couldn't get into them and even I struggled with most of them. There were maybe 2 that I liked.I do like that many of the authors of the poems seemed to be women, refreshing, but at the same time a little disappointing because I found the poems to be just OK.If I had only paid around ten dollars, I might have thought it was decent, but for me, this book is not worth twenty dollars. I think there have to be better ones out there than this. I haven't looked for something similar to this, but I do have some Nat geo poem books that we love.I will keep this and maybe it will grow on us, but we've had it for at least a year and it's never one we grab to read and my then 10 year old hated having to read it for her schooling.
