It adjusts nicely so you have a rest even when working low on your painting. I had no trouble attaching it. The best part is it holds anything with a stopper on the end. I did not need to order an expensive Mahl and instead bought a $6.00 curtain rod at a discount store to use as a mahl. Now all I have to do is finish the painting by Father's Day!!! Review: I gave this device 3 stars because of the concept. This product is made of plastic and is flimsy. When I put my mahl stick in the top 3 and bottom 3 grooves, the device bows in. This also isn’t conducive to use on a gallery wrap canvas that is more than 3/4 to an inch deep. Definitely not on a 1.5 inch deep canvas. For standard size canvas it will work just fine. I would suggest putting something flat and sturdy between the set screw and the canvas to keep the end of the screw from damaging your canvas. It is made of a heavier plastic material which seems sturdy.
