Good Housekeeping Illustrated Cookbook

I’ve had this cookbook for twenty years. I’ve used it several times and I’ve gotten stuff all over it. So I bought another one. I received it in better shape than I was expecting and sooner than I expected too.

I couldn't be happier with my purchase! This was the exact cookbook we had at home when I was a kid. There were a few recipes my dad used to make that I loved! I can't believe I found a copy in such excellent condition. They're really is nothing wrong with the book. Crisp clean edges. The only "imperfection" was a stamp on the very last page but, who cares! I was so happy I bought another to gift to my dad.

This book ISBN 978-0688080747 (Tan cover) is what I ordered. What was delivered is ISBN 978-1588160706 (white cover). Difference ? I originally had as a gift from my mother the first edition. Presently this book is missing. Bought the next newer edition to replace it since it still has a tan colored cover. The delivered book has a white cover and does not look the same. This is really a shame since the book itself is in really good condition (basically new). I like the amount of pictures and a step by step instructions, this is the one of the reasons I purchased another one.Too bad the other reason is to replace a gift. I'm not happy when the item I put in the cart is not the item delivered.

I have had my Good Housekeeping Illustrated Cookbook now for years. I remember first buying it back in the late 80s because I was recently married and didn't really know how to cook or what to cook. I was very impressed with all the info they give you for your kitchen and how to use this and how to use that, type of thing. The best thing bout the cookbook for me back then was that I had a visual on what the dish is suppose to look like when it was done. I found that a TREMENDOUS comfort, since I was just learning. I have had my cookbook fall apart from so much use that I would go to the bookstore again and just get another one, this is my fourth copy! Even to this day, this cookbook is A-1 for anyone. The recipes within are wonderful and my family and I have many, many favorites. If you want to have a cookbook that you can learn from and find GREAT meals from, this is the cookbook for you. I had hoped this would be a replacement for my well-worn copy because it was listed in good condition. However, that was not to be, as it arrived loaded with at least 6 separate pressed flowers/plant clippings that had stuck to the pages and created quite a mess. One would think that book resellers would check for this kind of thing. Completely unacceptable.

I have purchased 5 of these books over the years. It’s a great book for people who might not cook a lot as there are great instructions and photos describing procedures often used in cooking. Explains things like roasting vs braising for different cuts of meat, etc.

I have had this cookbook for years. It fell apart and I had taken it to the Office Depot to have it bound. The binding has now begun to crumble and when I found this for such a great price, I couldn't resist. I am so happy to have another good copy

As I opened the pages from beggining to end I had the confidance that I too can make amazing elegant meals. The recipes are realistic and take you step by step with east to read cross referencing...as I went through this book and as I cook new recipes I imagine my daughterrs handing this book down to their daughters for them to use. The first day on my new job as I am being trained as the relief cook for an oil rig out in the North West Pacific Ocean my boss showed me his copy and said"Ive been doing this for twenty years, the moment you fly on shore I expect you to have this book when you return" And now I know why! LOVE this recipe book. It is very hard to find. Book is full of fantastic recipes.

we have has a copy of this cookbook for years unfortunately the binding of the book was poor and the pages have all fallen out. We are hoping this one will stand up better because it is an awesome cookbook which covers all of the basics. If you only bought one cookbook this is the one.
