Stay away from Nextar
We got a good price for ours - under $100 during the pre-Christmas specials. I can't imagine paying the price listed on Amazon right now. You can do much better than Nextar for GPS.I have to keep it plugged in all the time when I'm using it - the battery does not keep a charge very long. It does get me where I need to go. Thankfully, I don't live in an area that is constantly changing. I do like having the GPS and it works for the most part. However, it is now October - 10 months after we purchased it - and there are no available map updates. So after one year I will need to buy a new GPS if I want current map information. Thankfully, I'm just a Mom shuttling her kids from one museum to the next, so this GPS serves the purpose of getting me to historical locations that have been there for years. If you're a delivery person and need current information this is not the way to go.For the price I guess it served it's purpose. However, I am highly dissatisfied with Nextar and it's decision not to update these GPS maps. I would not recommend purchasing from Nextar for any price. (Their website offers a "deal" where one can exchange one's old Nextar GPS system for a new one for just $129. Great plan - make customers buy a new GPS every year.)Don't do it - not a wise purchase at all.

Good GPS, but has problem
I first bought an X3-03, and it stopped working after a few months. Every time I made a turn, the GPS will freeze at that spot and had to do a reset every time. So I turn it in and they sent me back an X3-08. Which is pretty nice of them. But it is the exact same thing. Maybe there are more POI or whatever, but who need all those anyway. Then right after the warranty expires, the unit breaks. When I try to load the navigation screen, it pops the message "Warning, cannot find map data files. please make sure the storage card is properly inserted" Apparently it happens to a lot of its unit as I search on the Internet, but there are no solution except to buy a new unit according to their customer service representatives.Overall, I loved it when it works. It served me well over the years and I've been to many places with it. Sometimes it doesn't takes me to the exact location, but that happens to every GPS. They stop functioning too quickly. There aren't many gadgets fails on me, but 2 of these unit did in 2 years. And you can't update its map. You can't even pay to get map update. You need to buy a new unit for this model. I think the Q4 have that feature.

It is a ok gps for the money
The Nextar 3.5 inch gps is a good deal for the price I got mine for under $100 a few years ago.I have only had it give me wrong direction just a few times. That may be the fault of the satilite giving directions to thousands of gps's and not Nextar.Clear voice, updates most of the time within a few seconds if I would turn on the wrong street because of my mistake. One fault I do find annoying is the fact that it is a bit slow on updating sometimes as I can pass the street I need to turn on before it says I am there. That again may be the fault of the satilite trying to give directions to all the thousands of gps's on the road.Overall its a good gps for the money.

Not all units are troublesome, good unit for price.
I read all the reviews about this unit and half expected my to blow up after a couple days of getting it as a Christmas gift. This is not a bad unit for the price that was paid (under $100) and it had a lot of features and accesories included that other more expensive units did not.First off it speaks the name of the street and the direction, for example, "Turn left onto Frank Llyod Wright Blvd in 200 feet" Other more expensive units merely tell you to turn left. It has over 1.5 million points of interest which was important to my wife and I and it recalculates your route within 5 seconds which I know the Tom Tom does not do. The Tom Tom asks you to make a u-turn. That is unacceptable to me.I was also impressed by what came in the box. It came with both a car and a home charger as well as the usb cable not to mention a stylus and a soft case. Both Garmin and Tom Tom charged seperate for these items. It would cost over $100 to purchase these accessories on their own.Overall it is a good unit that I have had very little trouble with. I think that people tend to focus more on the negative in reviews and I wish that more people that are pleased would share it as well.If you are looking for an inexpensive GPS unit that will get the job done well and you want all the accessories to be included look no further.

ITS FROM 2008 !!!
It is only as good as the roads from 2008. it needs updates that are no longer available. DONT DO IT! I bought mine new, and it was fine, just out dated now. roads change a lot in 5 years

Biggest complaint is that there are no updates for the maps
Nextar will give you the run around, but it all comes down to... map updates may come soon, or not. They aren't available now. I am from a very progressive area with new roads coming constantly, but there are roads that are not on my maps for the gps that have been there for years. Today was my biggest upset, the gps told me to follow a highway, but the highway started as a gravel road and ended as a "no name off road" minimum maintenence road... when that came to a dead end, the gps told me to do a U turn and go back 5 miles. I was bummed.

3 years going strong
I purchased this gps 3 years ago during black Friday sales for $79. I've dropped it and it just keeps going. It tells you the street names and turns. It recalulates quickly. Eventually I will need to replace it to update maps, but I'll use it as long as feasible. I like that I can just sit it beside me to check.
