The item weight is 14.7 ounces. The shipping weight is 15.2 ounces due to the plastic bag they ship it in.

I throw it in the dishwasher, but then I'm a philistine. I'm sure it would last longer if handwashed, and it's good to occasionally oil the wood handle. Handwashing is probably perfectly fine; it really doesn't get that messy from use (beef and chicken, mostly).

my best guess would be china, no markings. the mallet end looks good quality however the handle seems a bit weak. I have used it lightly only home use, have had it maybe 2 + years
