I dip the brush directly in, the soap is pretty solid in the container. One container lasts me nearly a year (shaving every other day).

Q: Can you use this without a brush?

No, this shaving soap is specifically meant for use with a brush. You need the brush to create the lather, otherwise it's not creamy enough to use as a shaving gel/cream.

Q: Does this soap contain Parabens, BHT, and Propylene Glycol?

Sorry this took so long, I was out of town for two weeks. I looked at the ingredients and as far as I could see none of the ingredients you were concerned about are in the product. I've gone through three jars of this product with nothing but good results. You may also look up ARKO, it is similar and made in Turkey. This product is made in Italy. I've used both and they are both very good shaving soaps.

Q: Does the lid on the bowl screw on so that it is tight for travel, or does it just press on?

The lid is a press on lid. It stays on pretty tight. The amount is over the 2.5 to 3 oz. allowable size for a carry on, so unless you are putting it in check in baggage, you won't be able to bring it. If you does end up in your check in baggage then you should be fine but I would recommend putting in a plastic bag just to be on the safe side. If you are flying in a private plane, then I think it goes without saying that you will be fine. Things don't get tossed around as much that way, although I would think this goes without saying. Makes good thick foam. Easy to use. Nice scent. Have been using for 6 months daily. Still the soap is more than 50% remaining. Definitely worth the. Extra price.

Is a bliss when you have a cold and shaving. A mild Eucalyptus smell kind of soothes the nostrils. The soap appears melted due to the Indian heat. Otherwise fine
