The perfect hammer for me.
I wanted one of these things for years. I have a heavier wood handled framing hammer that I’ve used, but I never liked it. Too heavy, too large, I just don’t do a lot of that kind of hammering plus I am terrible with a hammer to begin with. Now don’t get me wrong, I am a master craftsman. I spent 25 years in Hollywood building, miniatures for movies and I have a degree in industrial design with a specialty and product design. This is an excellent design. All one piece of for Steel, I just can’t imagine it ever breaking no matter how many times I miss and whack the neck on some Piece I’m trying to nail. The weight is perfect too. A little lighter than my framing hammer, I feel I have much better control and suddenly I’m better with a hammer. Just a wonderful design. I just hope the rubber handle material doesn’t crack overtime. I’ve seen some that did . Otherwise, a little expensive, but such a nice piece in the hand.

Good finishing hammer
I am a professional trim carpenter. I decided to upgrade to some American made hammers. Estwing fits that without being high priced. I am assuming some of the other brands are great, but the cost would sting. This 15 ounce hammer is very nice, Has been good to use for what I do. Could very easily work for some framing also, with the nail starter and pulling features. Overall performing well and a good weight.

Awesome hammer
Best hammer I've had. I've been doing construction for 21 years and I love it.

Nice weight, balance, and features.
Oh she is a beauty. All steel, and made here in Rockford Illinois. For demo you cannotgo wrong with an all steel hammer. I have wood, fiberglass and all steel. I buy only Vaughanand Estwing. This model has a nice side nail puller and is nicely balanced. I prefer the blue nylon grip to the leather(though I have a 20oz leather as the leather handle is REALLY nice), as it provides more shock relief, andlasts longer.I also want to point out how nice the claw is as it is thinner than a standard claw hammer, and it'sat an optimal angle. The price is really nice as well to add the cherry on top !

Heavier than I thought
This is a rugged hammer for sure. The claws are at a good angle to get between boards when doing demolition. The side puller has its place, but I won't be using it much for what I do. I have an Estwing 20 ounce straight claw that I have used for more than 40 years. This 15 ounce hammer is actually heavier overall than that hammer is by a couple ounces which surprised me. For those that don't know, there is a clear finish on the hammer when you get it, remove that from the hammer face with a fine abrasive like sand paper. The finish is slippery and I was bending smaller nails when I first tried it out when I got it. I am very happy with this hammer, it is built really strong and I am not worried about putting it to hard work. I have had it for a few weeks now and in that time drove a few hundred nails of all different sizes doing projects, or just fooling around driving nails in scrap pieces of wood I have laying around to get a good feel for how it performs. The handle is very nice, and larger in diameter than my old Estwing which I like a lot. I recommend this hammer for anything more than driving tiny brads.

Gouge in the head from factory
Comfortable to hold, the claw works great (haven't tried the side puller yet), pretty well balanced, and feels solid. However my hammer arrived "damaged". There is a gouge on the head (see pics). This is not a scrape, but a gouge which says a lot about the care and attention of the workers. I realize this is a HAMMER, and is going to be used and abused, but can my NEW hammer at least not be dinged up before I even receive it?

One of the best hammers
Made a great gift for my boss. They are on the heavier side for a 19oz but feel so good! The grips continue to get better with time. I was actually able to bend one but i was doing something I should have been with it. That being said I think it made it better! Perfect all around!
