Giving it four stars for cultural reference no kid was going to know
"Rich Corinthian Leather" was mentioned. Almost certainly a cultural reference for adults who were kids in the 1970s. Ricardo Montalban mentions this phrase, in a car commercial back in my childhood.Hilarious.

My grandson loves watching Scooby Doo movies and the tv shows just wish it was free with the amazon prime because I hate going on Netflix in order for him to watch Scooby Doo tv shows.

A Must For Scooby Addicts
This movie was purchased to replace our damaged dvd (originally purchased in 2004). I just *had* to share my love of all things Scooby with my son. It was supposed to be a happy-go-lucky movie for us to bond over but the monster's eyes and roar were scary to him at the time. I felt terrible for scaring him and wouldn't recommend it for children under 5.We rediscovered our dvd a couple of years ago and - now that my son is older - found it to be an enjoyable, gigglefest. It has become a staple of our occasional Scooby Doo marathon weekends. The music is catchy enough to get us dancing around and the sometimes over-dramatic scenes just beg to be acted out (video camera optional).

Is this supposed to be chupacabra or BIGFOOT?
I don't think I've come across a Scooby-Doo feature length cartoon or movie that was so bad it was completely unwatchable. This is not horrible, either, but it definitely is one of the much weaker films, despite the many strong points going for it, which include a very brief reunion of the still surviving original voice cast from the original 1969 series, with the exception of Frank Welker voicing Scooby-Doo (along with Fred Jones) instead of Don Messick, who had died on October 24, 1997. The filmmakers tried using the 1969 series' funky music (although, a bit tweaked) and sound effects. Monster of Mexico is also noteworthy because it marked the final time that Heather North, who had voiced Daphne in seasons 2 and 3 of the 1969 series, and Nicole Jaffe, who had voiced Velma in 1 and 2, voiced their particular characters at the same time; this was North's final film role until her death in 2017.Despite the strong points described above, this film's potential was squandered by the studio. While the animation wasn't very good, the weakest part of it was the plot, which was way too convoluted and had way too many holes that were left unexplained. Charlene is revealed to be masquerading as the tour guide. At some point, she gives the gang a feux trip back in time in an auditorium, during which she kidnaps Daphne. The gang finds bound and gagged but relatively safe at the top of a pyramid. They untie her, and they're reunited. Her kidnapping led absolutely nowhere. Furthermore, after they're reunited, we get to see what look like two jaguar or leopard hieroglyph etchings on the side of a pyramid suddenly come to life and begin to menace Fred before they begin purring and snugging against him to immediately turn to attack the radio-controlled animatronic parrot. There's also a giant statue that comes to life and chases the gang around before hitting itself on the head and crumbling into pieces when the parrot flies overhead. Now, let me iterate that every single Scooby-Doo series or film that I've seen before this has always provided a clear, concise explanation for what seems to be causing the seemingly paranormal activity, even if they're not at all realistic. This film completely foregoes this, which makes for a very frustrating experience when finishing the cartoon. There's no Scooby-Doo film that is entirely cohesive, but like I said, they always explain what's causing the paranormal activity, so the cohesiveness of the plot has never been the aim of Scooby-Doo cartoons. The aim is the gags, pratfalls, gimmicks, etc., but we have always come to expect the paranormal activity to explained, usually by exposing the human culprits.Let's move on the question in the headline of this review: Is this supposed to be chupacabra or BIGFOOT? Now, I'm not trying to get technical here, since this is supposed to be a silly cartoon, but the way the animators drew the monster looks way too much like what purported sightings of bigfoot claim it to be. It's pretty much a huge, hairy, ape-looking humanoid stomping around everywhere and roaring like crazy for no apparent reason, furiously chasing the gang. While sighting descriptions of the chupacabra (which means "the one who sucks on goats" or merely "goat sucker"; "chupar" means "to suck", while "cabra" means "goat") vary widely, most have described it as being very dog-like, exhibiting very reptilian or alien-like features, or even being heavier or stockier, as large as a small bear, baring rows of spines that extend from its neck to the base of its tail. The animators could've at least taken inspiration from these descriptions. However, children might've been too scared if they had. This thing in the cartoon even has the traditional large, penetrating, colorized eyes, even though they're green here, as opposed to the red that most people claim bigfoot has.Again, not trying to be technical, but the real-time exchange that the whole gang has sending each other emails isn't the way emails work. Most, if not all, email providers do provide real-time messaging features, but emails on their own don't work that way. The animation was another weak point of this film. While it wasn't horrendous, it wasn't nice to look at. You can definitely tell that the department didn't invest anywhere near enough money to really polish up the drawings, but no direct-to-video cartoon does. At least we can say that this is slightly better than the three horrendous releases during the 1980s, Scooby-Doo Meets the Boo Brothers (1987), Scooby-Doo and the Ghoul School (1988), and Scooby-Doo and the Reluctant Werewolf (1988), which, while featuring Scrappy, inexplicably largely exclude Fred, Daphne, and Velma.Anyway, Monster of Mexico does feature some catchy, lively songs, and it is funny to watch for the most part, but it's by far not a favorite. Like I said, it does have its strong points, but overall it feels uneventful, inconsequential, and actually rather boring. As other reviewers have said, it does drag on and on for what seems like 50 minutes too long with nothing in particular happening or being actively resolved. In other words, all the running around doesn't amount to much mystery-solving. They just seem to be running around like chickens with their heads cut off while very loud, somewhat catchy, sometimes very annoying music plays in the background.I apologize to all who love this cartoon. I don't mean to offend anyone or the filmmakers. I'm sure they had some great ideas and I'm sure they had a blast making it, but it just doesn't feel like there was enough effort put into neither the story nor the animation. As such, I must give this film 1 star. Were it not for the strong points and were it possible to do so on here, I would leave zero stars.Anyway, I hope this review was beneficial to all. Perhaps renting it might be a better option for whoever is unsure how good this truly is. This review is merely here to state what I thought about it. Nevertheless, give it a try. Who knows? You might actually like it. The best to everyone!

Enjoyable as any old scooby doo movie and old tv shows!
hahaha I'm already laughing because I remember watching this movie with my sisters when we were a bit younger! Out of all my sisters I'm the only one continuously watching Scooby Doo! Scooby Doo and the monster of Mexico is enjoyable as any old Scooby Doo movies and 1975-2010 TV shows. The newer TV shows not so much. I turned it off when I saw they had shaggy and Delma dating and poor Scooby jealous. Nope that's just not what this show is about. Anyways enjoy Scooby and the gang in Mexico City!

Yeah Scooby
It just doesn't get any better than Scooby Doo. I had this on VHS and decided to upgrade to DVD. The colors are brighter, the sound is clearer. Good move all around.
