good for art exposure
This is a great way to introduce young kids to classic art. I was given Pop Warhol's Top (one of the other books from this author) and my daughter loved it so much that we bought more from this art series. Count Monets Lillies, as well as the other titles in this series, are great. I love how the paintings have touch and feel (and sometimes smell) parts that make this a truly "hands on" approach to art history. The back to pages have thumbnails of the paintings along with a short paragraph telling you about the art. The only thing i dislike is that the writing is simply aweful. Words are shoehorned in ryhyme and dont always have anything to do sith the accompanying painting. The writing just really distracts from the book itself.

Best books for fostering an early love and appreciation of art
This is our 7th Appel book. I began buying them for my son when he was a baby and he loved to "feel" the art and look at the colors. As a 9 year old, he still enjoys to look at the art in each book and see where the original art is displayed. We recently visited the MoMA and my older boys could identify types of art and artists- a lot was due to these books! My three year old could even recognize similarities in the art displayed and her Appel books. My parents sent us pictures of Monet's garden in France and we had fun with this book comparing the pictures. Overall, I highly recommend these books to expose your child to art and begin to foster an appreciation for it! These are my go to books for baby showers and first birthdays too!

I like this book and may buy another in the series
I like this book and may buy another in the series. I love that is teachers the children about art, but the touch part is not that interesting. My daughter is one and these book does not hold her attention. Maybe that will change when she gets older. I expected the touch part to be more substantial.

Just Okay
My child likes tough and feel books. Art was pretty but some of the text was confusing. They ask you to count things but the touch spots do not match the numbers and is confusing for a young child to count. The touch pieces were basic and repedittive, like a single bow on multiple pages. Even the page that says count the seven bows there is one big fabric bow and the rest are small in the painting. Construction of book is nice and the pages are thick sturdy cardboard.

I love Monet
I bought this book for my son because I love art, and Monet in particular. We also have Catch Picasso's Rooster, which is fantastic. This book is not as good as that one, and is definitely aimed at a girl- a lot of bows. I find that a shame, since most of the artists featured in the book are men, and art should be for everyone. Also, the touch and feel aspects of Picasso's Rooster integrate into the book better.

big hit with the littles!
When I opened the book I was disappointed. The reviews are amazing but it didn't loo hey engaging to me. However, the I am not the target audience. My 2 year old son pulls this book out daily to read it and touch it and show everyone how awesome it is. He loves the counting. My 5 year old who is learning to read is just as happy with it! I will be buying many more of this series.

Good book
Good solid board book. Great intro to art for little ones, I like that I can familiarize my kids with Monet's work.

Touch the Art
This was one of the first Touch the Art books that I bought for my grandkids. We have been hooked on them ever since. They are worth every penny of their price. Julie Appel is wonderful. The art work is just grand as well.
