Extraordinary story of Grit
A wonderful narrative of history & story telling, keeps you turning the pages till you reach the footnotes. A story of determination to survive against all odds.

Interesting story from a lesser famous greek period
Well written novel. I found this story amazing as it kept changing the hero of story as the story progressed, which isnt common in most other historical novels which are centered around a historically famous hero. It is story of willpower and strength resulting in survival of many from an disadvantageous and doomed situation.

Amazing
Another amazing book by one of my favourite historical friction writers. Well described and fast paced, I read it in two nights. But still, if I have to categorise as in which is better:1) Conqueror series2) War of Roses3) Emperor series4) Falcon of Sparta

Masterpiece
Truly magnificent. Shows how values and ethics last through the ages. 2500 years later, nobility, courage, trust, truthfulness and loyalty, still shine through. As for storytelling, well, I walked with Xenophon.

A disappointment
Well written but not well crafted. Cyrus the soul of the story loses his war and life due to Greeks. There was no valor in the indiscipline that forced Cyrus to throw all on one throw of the dice and lose his all and yet the Greeks are made out to be heroes. And Cyrus is not even mourned. It was a Greek tragedy without sufficient pathos. Expected a better story from Conn.

Disappointing.
After reading his books on Caesar and Genghis Khan this was a huge disappointment. It’s a biased narration. Does not have the detailing which the previous books had.

This was a well written historical fiction novel; I enjoyed from the beginning to the end, a couple of shockers in it too!

Incredibly epic
A work of art on one of history's most fascinating and powerful exodus. Where mercenaries and normal people fought to get home

Grande scrittore storico Conn Igulden
Ottimo scrittore storico, e leggerlo in inglese è una meraviglia, molto fluido e soprattutto non ci sono slang, ottimo anche per chi vuole migliorare il suo Inglese scritto.

Captivating historical fiction
Conn Iggulden is definitely one of the best historical fiction writers out there, ranking right up with Bernard Cornwell. I was engrossed with his Ghengis, Caesar and War of the Roses series. I was surprised to see this book received less than stellar reviews which caused me to delay reading it when it first came out but in my opinion this is another great read. There is plenty of action, drama, character development and insights into the ancient world and warfare during the times of the Persian empire. Well worth the purchase.

Interesting to learn something new as a novel
It is based on true history, which was new to me. Loved the way and very especially from thebpoint where Xenophon took leadership
