Dog Heaven: Somewhere Over the Rainbow Bridge

I originally found out about this book from [...] and thought I'd give it a try. As a school counselor I often have students who are dealing with the loss of a dog. At first I wasn't quite sure I would enjoy the book (it seemed to drag a little in the middle, probably because I expected it to be more like the Rainbow Bridge poem) but as I kept reading and the story developed I found it very comforting. As someone who has sent a beloved dog to the Rainbow Bridge I know this book will come in handy (for children and adults alike).

I believe the Rainbow Bridge is real. My BearDog was there today. He will watch for me til we meet again just as the book says. The comforts this book offers are wonderful. Rest, BearDog. We will run and have unimaginable fun when I arrive. Until then, watch over me as I think about you. I love you very much...

Our 5 year old dog needed to be put down. As sad as we are this book has been a huge comfort to all of us, especially our 3 year old who has lots of questions. It's been nice to hear him reminding us that Buster, our dog, is just over the rainbow bridge and he's "just fine."

I will be reading this to my kids soon and my hope is that it will make them feel better about our precious furry boy going over the rainbow. Tears for sure but worth it knowing they'll see him again someday.

Perfect gift for someone who has just lost a pet. Most dog owners consider their pets part of the family, and this book may help children grieve. It will also give them a chance to ask questions. I have also given this gift to couples with no children as a way to say "Sorry for your loss."

I thought this book was perfect for my friend who lost her sweet dog to cancer. It's a tearjerker and the recipient might not be able to read it all the way through right away but the idea that you will see your pet again is the message throughout the book. She loved it!
