Bentley Goes to School: A simple story about staying safe with food allergies

This story is perfect for my preschoolers.
This book exceeds my expectations! I have lots of severe food allergies in my classroom and will be reading this to my preschoolers. They are starting to ask about kindergarten so this should soothe them a bit and give them an idea of what to expect. Even has a great page for adults to see how to word things. I loved how it went through the school day, showed the child's part in staying safe as well as adults roles, and even brings up the EpiPen. I understand the ad at the end, but I prefer my children's media to be ad free so I will be removing the last page (which isn't part of the story just to clarify and has to do with allergies). Wish the ad was not binded to the book but rather a flyer inserted in that was easy to remove. That doesn't bring down any stars as I love the book, but it is an area for improvement.

Great for food allergy kids
My son references this book a lot, as he suffers from food allergies and is getting ready to head back to school next week. He is 4 years old and this book helps instill the important things you want your food allergy child to remember.

This has become my new favorite allergy book
Bought this to help my food allergic son prepare for Kindergarten - I did not expect how much both he and I would love it! It's so straightforward, simple, and it is suitable for any number of allergies (my son has multiple food allergies and several of them are not the typical top 8) so everything Bently does, my son can relate to. The book explains that Bently has food allergies and that his teacher knows he can't eat certain foods without saying it's peanut or dairy or anything else. It goes through Bently's day at school and all the things he remembers to do - asking his teacher if she has his epinephrine (my son self-carries, so we talk about how he checks before he leaves his house and how his teacher knows he has his epinephrine) washing his hands, not sharing food, saying no to other kids trying to share food, checking school supplies, not putting things in his mouth. And then there's also just the basic kid-going-to-school things, like being nervous, meeting a teacher, learning numbers, etc. It's just so wonderful and well rounded my kid asks for it most nights. If the person that wrote this book ever reads this, I'd like to request a sequel that I can buy for my son's teacher(s) to read to his class so that they can learn ways to support a kid like Bently and do their part to help keep him safe and included at school too!
