The Rime of the Ancient Mariner: Illustrated

I’ve read criticisms of Coleridge, but I don’t believe you can deny the beauty of this poem. The illustrations...inspired. And we still haven’t learned the lessons about abusing nature, nor that the dichotomy of man and nature is simply illusion.

The illustrator did a beautiful job (in my humble opinion) of interpreting the poem with images just as haunting and beautiful as Coleridge's poetry. I highly recommend this for anyone who has to read the poem for a class and needs a little visual help interpreting some of Coleridge's imagery. For anyone already familiar with the work, the images in this book might give you a whole new perspective, as they did me.

I bought this book for the luscious Doré illustrations I've seen in other higher quality editions. This version is a small paperback with poor, darkly-reproduced illustrations. Still, it's a nice story if you've never read it or have a book report to do on it or something.

Excellent - intend you buy class set to pair with Shelley

This is one of my favorite poems. I got the Kindle edition and it is great. The Kindle edition contains the poem and some illustrations. There is no additional writing from some person taking about the poem. I like that. If I wanted to read other people's opinions on the poem, I'd look into literary critics.

Pictures are a little dark but still beautiful!

The shipping was fast. However the book is for school, so the kids aren't very excited about it.

This is one of my favourite English poems. Ever since I studied it for O-level English literature, I have been fascinated by the description of the Mariner's travels to the wedding guest.The illustrations are exquisite and the book is a real bargain for its price. I very strongly recommend it.

I am listening to this poem in daily instalments during lockdown. It is being read by over 40 different poets, singers and authors.. As a result I decided to order a copy of the this book. It was not very expensive and there are over 35 black and white illustrations by Gustav Dore. I will order a more expensive copy of the poem in hardback at a later date. I just wanted to have a very reasonably priced copy now.

Beautiful illustrations. Good quality printing. Love it. And it’s a great poem.

I saw a much better edition of this in a bookstore in Princeton,but decided not to buy it till I got back to the UK. I had hoped that your edition would be the same, but when it arrived I was sadly disappointed. The illustrations were commissioned specifically to match the prose, so the artists input should have been given equal prominence but there was no descriptive or biographical text about him, Overall I thought this was a cheapo edition.
