Handy Strainer
Nice smaller size, fits into pots easier than my bigger strainer. Too soon to tell about durability.

Nine Years and Still Perfect!
I have owned this spider strainer for NINE years, and it is still exactly as it was the day I got it. I agree with another poster who mentioned that ATK dissed the wooden handle unfairly (and I'm a huge fan of ATK). There have been zero issues with the wood, and the benefits far outweigh the possible negatives they stated. I have never put it in the dishwasher; soaking a few minutes in hot soapy water, rinsing, and drying immediately has probably helped prolong its life.

Smaller but very nice spider
I make stir fry quite often and all I had to take up the food was a slotted spoon which often nab just a couple of vegetables at a time. Same goes for my fries and apple fritters. Enough was enough so I scouted out the spider strainers. I chose Helen Chen's smaller 5 1/2" spider because I only cook for two and my cookware isn't as spacious as a home that cooks for more individuals. This smaller spider is absolutely perfect as it can get in the pots and stir fry pans I use with the greatest of ease and leaves the cooked product well drained. I love the bamboo handle as it never gets hot and is easy to clean. Now talking about clean, although the instructions say this product can be placed in the dishwasher, and I'm sure it can be, I do wash it by hand. Just swish around in hot soapy dishwater and bingo! it's clean and sparkly. It can be air dried but I just pat it gently with a dishtowel. I have no problem with it snagging my washing sponges or dishtowels because I'm very gentle in my use of it. It looks as if it will last through many meals and I'm very happy with the product.

I use this more than any other kitchen utensil!!
Bought this for one specific crock pot recipe and it did such a great job, it is in my dishwasher almost every load!! Highly recommend.

Top-Value, Works Great!
I have owned this for some time and used it a bit.. I don't do a LOT of frying. This item is just a fine item. America's Test Kitchen (ATK) ran a test of "dippers" and this one did not win top honors, instead going to a metal-handled one costing about triple what this one costs (and this ships free too over $25 orders) Their reason for rejecting this one was that the wood handle might "hold smells and oil". I have used bamboo-handled kitchen devices of various sorts and have never had that kind of problem.. admittedly I never wash it in a dish washer either, and that may break down the natural structure of the wood.. I don't know. This was not mentioined by ATK.This spider is wonderful for dipping out of hot liquids..*It dips cleanly, leaving the liquid in the container.. this can really be annoying for frying because the oil ends up on your food or being wasted.*It picks up a nice load of "stuff" too.. about the right size.*I love the angled handle that allows you to "get into" the pots easily.*The handle stays cool in all cases.*In spite of it's size it doesn't take up a lot of drawer space.. fits neatly around other utensils*It's cheap and durableIf you need a tool like this, I recommend it.
