Shortening their name to Dr Hook in 1975 after signing with Capitol Records, the band continued to release hit singles over the next four years. Regularly appearing on both pop and country charts in the US, Dr Hook s versatile musical output won them generations of fans who connected with their simple themes of life and love: their timeless sound cementing their place in music history.Talking about Timeless , Dennis Locorriere said: None of us could have known at the time that what we were creating was destined to stand the proverbial test of time. There were many sides to Dr Hook... Some people may remember, maybe even prefer one side or the other. I m proud of this collection because it touches on all the facets of Dr Hook s music and is the first release to accomplish that. One that all the family will enjoy, Timeless is an opportunity for Dr Hook fans and music fans alike to broaden and add to their own record collections.

Nearly perfect compilation!
Very good collection with a number of rarities, BUT how they thought it was ok to leave out "you make my pants get up and dance" is beyond me!

GREAT!
Love all the old songs, and now so does my grandson! The sound is very good. It is nice to have all the popular songs on two CD's rather than carry a bunch in my car. This is all I've listened to in my car since it came in the mail-it is that good.

Timeless....INDEED!
A really good CD with a lot of songs featuring the mellow voice of Dennis Locorriere. A lot of the early releases that are a big part of early Dr. Hook and the Medicine Show. A nice helping of the somewhat crazy stuff like "Freakin' at the Freakers Ball", "Levitate", and "Jungle to the Zoo". I think this is the best of the CDs' to get an overall sampling of Dr. Hook and especially, Dennis Locorriere> I play it over and over and never get tired of it. Those were the days!

Hooked up
In more than one way, this was at least two bands. Starting out as Dr Hook & the Medicine Show, they were a funky, cohesive outfit that played downhome country-tinged rock, relying heavily on the witty compositions of Shel Silverstein. Their album Sloppy Seconds {which is under-represented here} is almost certainly the best of their earlier 'phase one' efforts. Bankrupt had some good tracks too, including the hilarious parody of 'new dance' songs Levitate, also included. Then the band became simply Dr Hook {a bit like Tyrannosaurus Rex or The Bonzo Dog Doo Dah Band shortening their names} and put out the slick but mostly very fine A Little Bit More, whose best tracks are all here on this forty-track trawl through their back catalogue as compiled by lead singer Dennis Locorriere himself.Sadly, after that slickness and hollow commercialism took over big time, number one hits were had {for example, the odious When You're in Love With a Beautiful Woman and Sexy Eyes} and a devilishly good band morphed into a neat, better-dressed, soulless echo of a once-vibrant, happily irreverent rock band.I honestly like about thirteen of the forty tracks on this well-packaged compilation ~ the booklet is a good one, with notes by Locorriere, though even that has a pseudo-psychedelic cover and indifferent photos. The highlights for me are the five slow songs from A Little Bit More, and two or three of the numbers from Sloppy Seconds, such as Cover of Rolling Stone and the gloriously depraved Freaker's Ball.Their version of J.J. Cale's song Clyde is a mess, and they could have made more of the old Leroy Van Dyke hit Walk Right In. On too many of the songs the band simply sound either bored or as if they're going through the motions.Maybe they should have stuck with the scruffy, downhome look and the old name and sound, or simply quit after A Little Bit More, since a little bit more was far too much for me.Well worth three stars, but I won't be playing this very often.I once loved this band, but I was in my twenties, they sounded different, and things change ...
