Luckily it turned out that the plastic pad that pushes the plunger of this switch in had broken apart and was not pushing the nib that turns the brake light off.. I replaced the plastic pad with a couple nickels and double sided tape - and the old switch ended up working after all. So I'm saving the switch for when the old one goes bad.

This does not fit a 2000-2004 Subaru Legacy/Outback as the website says. It takes a 4 pole switch. Amazon refunded it with no problem, and the product itself felt like a quality product. I just wanted to warn people that Amazon says it will fit, and it doesn't. The representative I talked with said there was no way she could change the list of products that fit the car either.

Switch does not work. Looks good but never interrupts the connection. I look like an idiot after telling my mechanic how much $$ I saved on the cost of the part.
