My Favorite Coat: Sturdy, Comfortable, Warm
I have several Outback vests so when I wanted a new jacket I decided to give this Swagman Jacket a test drive. So glad that I did. Right out of the box I loved it. The fit is excellent. I am 5'9", 148 pounds, 42" chest and have an athletic build. There is room for an additional layer or two when it gets colder but it fits/hangs very well with just a t-shirt underneath. It is comfortable and the lining is good looking, in fact I slept with it on the first night I got it. Perfect for sitting around a campfire, doing bushcrafting, or doing a trek. I was concerned when ordering that it might be a "heavy" jacket...but the Swagman is sturdy without being heavy. I decided to test the waterproof claim by having my friend hose me down. Worked as promised. The only thing I don't like about Outback products are the leather patches, especially the two on the inside. But I quickly took them off with a seam-stripper. Other than that one drawback it is an outstanding coat that should give me years of use (based on how the Outback vests have held up).

A big Thank You to Outback Trading Co. for continuing to produce quality products!
I Purchased an Outback Trading Company Deer Hunter Oilskin Vest, Bronze, XL in fall of 2016. I loved wearing it so much last winter and spring here in the northeast that I actually missed it during the warmer months.. Warm, Great looking, very well made, Extremely comfortable to wear, Many well designed pockets. -- I love the oilskin material; It wears well, is totally waterproof, and is not plastic-like as much of today's outer wear is. I love how the material ages, it gets a slightly distressed appearance, like how a well worn leather jacket has "character".. -- The lining, Zippers, snaps, stitching, draw-string waist all attest to long term quality and attention to detail. Sounds silly, but I am glad the weather has cooled so I can wear it again.. I recently bought this "Outback Trading Swagman Jacket XL Bronze" oilskin jacket for foul weather wear. All the attributes of the vest are applicable to this jacket, and I LOVE the roll-away hood! I am not a hat wearer.. I was initially concerned with the extra-generous size of the XL Swagman, but then I realized I could wear my vest (Which is my primary cool weather jacket) and a heavy hooded sweatshirt under the Swagman... Extra warmth and all those pockets! I may still consider buying an Outback Trading "Packable Oilskin" When it gets back in stock to keep in my car for foul weather in the warmer months. A big Thank You to Outback Trading Co. for continuing to produce quality products!

Classic
Excellent coat. Perfect for the days I don't need my full length duster. Great look and quality. Buy a size larger than you'd normally wear. Very good purchase and price too.

Great jacket, authentic ranch gear, looks and feels great.
This is a great heavy lined raincoat. In 30 degrees or less you'll need to wear a couple layers underneath. If you're not sure what oilskin feels like I would recommend going to your local retailer. Even if it is a different coat by Outback Trading Co. you can check out the sizing & see what oilskin feels like. Then buy from Amazon where the selection is better. The Swagman needs more pockets; there are only 3 you can put stuff in, with 2 additional hand warmer pockets.....a busy rancher needs more than that. I wanted the attached hood, as it can get very windy in Colorado but I chose the Swagman over the Brant because it is much longer. Overall a warm & comfortable jacket.

I've Wanted An Outback Swagman For Years
I finally forked over the dough and bought an Outback Swagman waterproof jacket. I've wanted one for years, but never could justify it. In winter it's: Skiing = parka. Running = runner's jacket. Formal dinner = camelhair overcoat. Grocery store = light jacket. Now that I have two active German Shorthaired Pointers, this is the perfect solution for our daily two-hour treks in the Oregon winter. No, I'm not riding a horse with a brimmed hat somewhere in the "Outback," but I am wearing a wool hat and winter gloves, so this jacket fits in perfectly, and gets tons of compliments. I've always loved the stylish shoulders on this jacket. To answer the question about quality: I give this five-plus stars. Yes, this Outback Trading Company Swagman is now made in China and not Australia, but the quality and styling is most certainly still there. It's heavy duty in every way, with plenty of pockets, and the hood rolls up into a nice collar showing off the interior design. I looked at the competition from Australia, but was not impressed with the styling, and I was not shopping for price. I'm 100% pleased with my purchase.

Swagman - A great jacket, but thinner than expected, and not sure I like the look of the cape...
From the reviews and write ups I read, I expected a heavier jacket. I live in Southern New England. This would be a great mid-late fall and end-of-winter/early spring jacket. It almost feels like a heavy nylon rather than the waxed cotton it is. I'm 6'2" and 255lbs. 2XL fit perfectly. Seems well made, although I haven't worn it yet. I like the look (with reservations about the cape), my wife doesn't like it, says the cape makes it look almost feminine, though. Because of the cape, its not something I would run errands in or wear out for a beer and burger, but its awesome for what its made for: Walking around the woods on a drizzly day. Probably going to return for the Deer Hunter jacket because I have my doubts about the look of the cape, although I'll miss the hood.

Highly recommend, better than I expected.
I am 5'6" and weigh 165. I purchased the large size because I like my jackets to fit loose. Perfect fit for me. This jacket is very well made and virtually wind and water proof. Love the roll up hood, perfect for a surprise rain storm. It's actually better than I expected which is rare these days. It's not heavily lined so I wouldn't really consider it a winter coat but the wind proof aspect makes it comfortable on chilly days. Highly recommend.
