misleading
I thought I was buying a gas light that would arrive, and I could light and use. But, despite the picture showing a gas cartridge attached, there is no gas cartridge. I thought that was a tad misleading to be honest but could live with it without any adverse comment. Then, having got some cartridges, I notice it also has no mantle or even mantles (spares would be nice!). I rummaged around the net looking for some mantles for this model and could find plenty of mantles but none with this particular gaslight specified. They're probably generic, but to be honest I have no idea. So I thought OK - I'll mail the seller and ask if they sell any mantles to complement this light. I got an answer saying they don't sell them individually. Jeez...I just want a mantle - don't care if it is three or six !! I've ordered some off Ebay tonight but am very disappointed. Message is folks....it's a bit misleading in my humble view. There's not much point in having something that then needs other things to get it to work. I imagine the idea is to make it look cheaper than other products so folks fall for it.

Batteries not included!! So to speak 😁
Have to give it 5 stars as it looks like a quality lantern. However as a quick skim purchase (made with over zealous confidence) there is no gas supplied. They do state this in black and white, so fair play.Slightly miss leading with pictures of the gas cartridge.People who made the same mistake have given it a 1 star which is a bit dumb, even dumber than the mistake I made.

Warmth brightness fantastic light.
I hadn't used one of these since 90s. Someone reminded me of them so ordered. Ah I love this light. It's a shame it doesn't have an igniter. But this is minor. Such a warm bright light, and gives additional heat in the tent. I even like the hiss it makes. Perfect light for non electric camping gives warmth and decent lighting. Warm cosy ambient light that is very bright. Arrived quickly and undamaged. Love it. Might even order another one.

An excellent and very useful product
Every household should have one of these little lamps - indispensable if, like me, you live in an area prone to frequent power cuts. They're lightweight and small enough to tuck into a cupboard, are quick and easy to light - the switch on the side is simple to find in the dark - and they give out a good strong light which lasts for many hours. I've bought several of them over the years and would thoroughly recommend them to anybody.

recommended for power cuts
These lanterns have long been a staple for campers. As soon as you get away from mains electricity you realise just how dark it is for much of the time, particularly during the winter and just how expensive and bothersome it is to provide decent amounts of illumination. Obviously battery powered torches are easy and safe, but frankly they do not provide much light and are very expensive. Candles and paraffin lamps are cheap and relatively safe but do not provide all that much light. A Camping Gaz lantern provides light equivalent to a standard light bulb at a relatively affordable cost. The gas cylinder is a sealed unit, so it is safer than alternatives like the Coleman Lanterns that run on unleaded petrol! There is a faff factor, you have to fit a mantle, (cloth sock that once charred provide the wick) and it comes with a fragile glass globe that is breakable. However with reasonable care and following the instructions, neither of these are much of a problem. Look after this and you should be fine.If there is a power cut then this is an absolute essential, otherwise just store in a shed or outbuilding and forget about it.This is a basic model, but despite the baffling array of different models from Camping Gaz they are all pretty much the same, though some come with electronic starters, this one does not.For your money you get one mantle, but no gas cylinder, you need Campingaz CV470 Gas Cartridge . I've not tried out replacement mantles or globes, so cannot recommend any particular model, but they are available. Finally, the default packing from Camping Gaz is skimpy, my lantern arrived with a broken globe, the supplier was excellent and popped a well packed replacement globe in the post the next day. If you can buy from a shop, or even Argos, then you could avoid the faff or receiving a lantern with a broken globe, but otherwise a sound purchase, albeit a little expensive for what you get.

Difficult to set up.
Difficult to dismantle to fit the cloth mantle. Instructions say to hold a lighter by the mantle to burn it off. It says it will give off a lot of smoke and then become a black ball - it didn't, it stayed a dirty white colour and a couple of holes appeared in it. If I hold a lighter near it now it glows red then turns back to a dirty white colour. Also the glass is hard to remove and I was worried in case it broke.

Great Lantern
Great Lantern at a very good price, very easy set up and includes mantle (no gas canister). Lovely glow and warmth, adds significantly to any camping experience. LEDs while useful and more durable provide a cold hue and are very artificial. Only negative is trying to protect the delicate mantle and glass during transport.
