The Wisdom of Florence Scovel Shinn Paperback – March 7, 2010

I've always been fond of the Shinn series. Years ago, I had a friend who suddenly become ill and became permanently disabled. He was a six-figure VP. He was in bed for months... During a visit, I gifted him all four of the little Shinn books. I asked him to keep at his nightstand and to read it in a certain order - The Game of Life first - as a "favor" to me. He said he would do it only because I asked him to. He was so discouraged he didn't see the point of doing anything for himself any longer. I appreciated that despite the utter despondency he felt about his situation, he regarded me enough to see this favor through. Doesn't seem like much, but for a person in his then state of mind, it was a lot to ask.Fast forward 2 years later, I ran into him again and this time he was wearing his trademark Armani suit and tie. Lol! Boy, what a picture! He was always such a looker! He explained that despite his disability, he had made up his mind to get back to the business of living and be bigger than the daily challenges his illness brings on. Then he said to me, "I never told you but those Shinn books you gave me really helped me get my butt out of bed." I was delighted... He was always devoted Christian and the Shinn books resonated with him. I think that it's very effective and uplifting if you are at least familiar with (Bible) Scripture.If a friend is going through troubled times and not familiar with Christian scripture, then I gift them Wu Wei's, I-Ching - Living it, as an alternative. The message is just as beautiful and encouraging. Thank you.

Each insightful little book emphasizes life experiences in the bright light of God's assistance in day-to-day situations. I ordered this copy because I had literally worn out my first copy. It helped me get through extremely difficult experiences, including divorce and death of members of my family. I used her positive advice to seek and accept the new life I felt God intended for me. When my first marriage broke up, I felt strongly that I had more love to give but needed guidance to seek a new relationship in a positive light. One day, I came across this message from her (paraphrased): When you want a new set of dishes, don't accept a broken plate. This message resonated with me. My first marriage was irreparably broken, and I knew I would be guided to a complete, unbroken relationship (set of dishes). Soon, I met a wonderful man, we married and had many happy years together. Ms. Shinn. has uplifting messages I have never seen anywhere else. The books were written a long time ago but they have not lost any of their relevance in today's world.

Having read hundreds of books on metaphysics and the science of personal development, when a friend gave me this book, I almost didn't read it assuming that there was probably not much new that it could teach me. Boy was I wrong! Rather than relying on complex metaphyical language and amorphous concepts to describe the science of the mind and the laws of manifestation in physical reality, the author (who wrote these books in the 1920s) has managed to create one of the clearest and most practical expositions of the Law of Attraction and the metaphysics of reality I have ever read. In a manner similar to the way Jesus used the medium of parables to make his wisdom accessible to the average person, Shinn employs real-life cases based on her own experiences with clients to very effectively illustrate complex metaphysical concepts in remarkably simple and concrete terms that anyone can understand Furthermore, she never resorts to gross oversimplification in order to demonstrate a point. In fact, the exposition of the laws of physical reality and manifestation in this book are so clear and the prose is so flowing and easy to read, that I actually gave this book to my 14-year old daughter with full confidence that she would comprehend what she read in a way that would enable her to integrate this knowledge into her own life.One thing that every potential purchaser of this book should be aware of: There are (2) editions of this book with the same title from two different publishers: #1) the cheaper SoHo edition and #2) the larger, higher quality Fireside/Touchstone edition. The edition by SoHo Books is deficient for (3) reasons: 1) the print is microscopic 2) the paper is thin and cheap and (most importantly) 3) the SoHo volume only includes **(3)** of Shinns (4) works.So, I would strongly recommend that you order the Fireside Touchstone edition  The Wisdom of Florence Scovel Shinn: Four Complete Books, the Game of Life and How to Play It/The Power of the Spoken Word/Your Word is Your Wand/The?? This works! I read this book many years ago but didn't really get it, and wasn't really interested either. Taking it up recently has been life changing. Maybe I am older and more open but I think is because life has taught me the importance of expectation and this book shows how to change and manifest expectations. This is a book to try not to just read.

A must-read! This is the gospel. Only believe! Published so many years ago and only now are scientists discovering the truth of this!

It is simple and easy to to understand.
