Allows advance curve tuning that you just can't do with weights and springs
Running this on a 1984 Mustang GT with a 333 stroker. Pretty large roller cam, idling at 1100 RPM. It was hard to keep from intermittently stalling when cold or when a load from the A/C compressor or power steering loaded the engine at idle. Prior setup was MSD 6AL with 16 initial and another 20 degrees pulling in from vacuum advance at idle. When the motor would stumble, the vacuum dropped as did the extra idle advance and it would stall easily. The programmable ignition has fixed that issue for me. My idle is still 1100 RPM. I created an advance curve that increases sharply as the idle RPM drops. Now, if the engine RPM drops due to load/stumble, the extra added advance gives it the necessary kick to stay running and bumps it back up. (see attached picture of my curves) Works like a charm. Only possible drawback would be if anyone were to lug the engine along under 1000 RPM, but that's nothing I'd ever do on this car. Not cheap, but it was worth every penny on my application to end my stalling and give me the kind of adjustability that I appreciate.

Fixed all my timing issues, now I can program my curve with my laptop
This solved all my ignition problems!I have a modified Pontiac 400 that requires a specific timing curve that is hard to obtain with weights and springs. My first distributor was professionally curved, a Pertronix Flamethrower. It worked great at first, but one day it started retarding the timing rather than advancing when rpm's increased. I never put 300 miles on the car and the $$$ distributor was junk. I temporarily put a Cardone distributor in with light springs to get by until I came up with another solution (MSD locked out distributor with this MSD 6AL2 programmable ignition box).Tip: Lock out your distributor and use the built-in software to set your timing curve! You can set starter cranking timing so it's not so hard on the starter turning over your high compression engine. I set 16 degrees between 0-500 rpm. Remember the software you set the retard, so think in terms of setting your timing all-in, then work backwards with the software. You can read my full review by searching your favorite search engine for "mods and rods tv MSD 6aL2", should take you to my blog post which includes pictures and more suggestions.

Great ignition
Lots of install hardware, instructions were pretty clear. Quality of the box and install hardware was very good. I have installed and been using this for a month. It does what they say it does. Once your used to the software interface it's very easy to tune. Excellent feature set for the money. If you want a digital ignition and you have a supercharger this is a no brainer purchase. you need a MAP sensor, I bought the MSD one. Just made it easy. Would have preferred a more modern com standard but as an old school geek, serial ports are solid and very easy to use so I like them, and I have all the adapters I need and laptops with 9pin serial ports so....... But then usb would have made more sense for todays devices and users. Just realize you will need to buy a usb to serial adapter, no way around it unless you have a device with a serial port. I use a made in USA one that I use at work and its flawless. http://www.usconverters.com/usb-serial-adapter-xs880

Don’t order this from the company. Their support service is no good.
Worked for a little bit of time after install. Then misfired continuously. There are all kinds of forums with the same defect listed for this product

Great product, installed to set a RPM Limiter on ...
Great product, installed to set a RPM Limiter on my 73 Cuda. Works great. Didn't notice much of a power add, but knowing I have some tech under the hood to allow for future upgrades is nice. One thing I will say is that careful how you wire it. I had it hooked to a kill switch as I was too lazy to find a 12 volt key on source. I bumped the engine to make sure the battery wasn't dead one morning before work, but never turned the kill switch off, resulting in leaving the box on all day(I don't believe this should ruin an ignition box, but...). Car wouldn't start that night, no spark. After testing I determined the box was bad and was forced to buy another one that day to get her up and running before my road trip. It's still a 5 star as customer service is honoring the warranty. I've yet to mail it in for the repair, and if they don't fix it, I"ll lower the rating.

Perfect solution for re-curving distributor without springs/weights
Run this on a '75 Celica with a built high compression 22R/20R hybrid. I needed to run less low RPM timing with more top end timing, while being able to run a lot of initial timing at idle. Something you can't really do by re-curving the distributor. Even if I wanted to, spring/weight kits are not offered for these motors like they are for Ford/Chevy motors.Welded my distributor weights and installed this thing. My goal was to run 32 degrees of total timing, so I set my distributor at 32 degrees so I could make a curve based off retarding from that total amount I wanted to run, since this box works by retarding timing from whatever your locked out distributor is set at. Made a curve on my laptop using the box software so I have 32 degrees of timing at idle, curve from 24 degrees to 32 degrees between 2000-3500 RPM to prevent pinging issues I was having with the high compression, and then keep 32 degrees throughout redline after that. This is the perfect solution for those needing a specific timing curve, especially if you can't get weight/spring kits for your car application. Even if you can, this is still a better solution since you can set a full custom curve throughout the RPM range however you want.Software feels a little dated, and you need to use a serial to USB cable (I bought one on Amazon from IOGear that works great) to plug it into a modern laptop. But, the software works great and is reliable so it's really not an issue. Wish you could make changes in real time instead of having to push the new settings to the box (takes about 30-45 seconds) each time you make a little change, but once again not a big deal it works perfect as is.
