Does this work on brio wooden train tracks?

No, it only works on the plastic track.

Why is Gordon $12 while all the rest are $10?

It's probably due to it's rarity, but I have noticed alot of the prices on some of these toys do go up or down.

Does this run on the floor without tracks?

Yes, it will run on the floor, although only in a straight line unless you manually turn it. It does best on hard surfaces like wood, tile or linoleum, although it can run, albeit more slowly, on low pile carpet. Obviously, it's meant to be run on the track but my child gets a kick out of them "escaping" across the floor from time to time.
