## Questions & Answers

**Q: How often do you have to water the orchid with this medium? I recently switched and my orchid seems to be drying out. Flower bulb dried out.**
A: We water our orchids once a week. Let the water run through the medium until it is soaked. Fertilize once a month. We have about a dozen orchids blooming now and many of them are 5 to 10 years old. Ice cubes are a marketing gimmick as far as we are concerned.

**Q: Do I have to use orchid moss for repotting the orchid? Now my orchid has 4 spikes growing up, is it the appropriate time for repotting? Thanks!**
A: If the spikes are flower bearing stems, wait until after blooms are done and gone- that may be months down the road. If the spikes are new growth of folage, and it has just finished flowering, then it is time to repot. Next question is what type of orchid as to what substance to use for repotting. One expert says to pot moth-orchids(phaleanopsis) in ONLY a chunky bark mix. All I have are moth-orchids. For other varieties search the internet. There is lots of info.

**Q: Is this soil good for orchid seeds?if not, do you reccomend any type. I just got some orchid seeds, not sure how to start?**
A: No ,it is not for orchid seedlings. orchid seedlings are usually grown in flasks in a liquid medium. it requires a sterile solution . it also requires you to monitor the ph. you can give this a try , but it is difficult without a sterile enviroment. try 1 liter rain water,20 grams of honey, 1 gram of charcoal, 1.5 grams of a 20-20-20 liquid orchid fertilizer and 6 grams of agar. you boil the water and add the ingredients. once cooled then add your seeds.you adjust the ph with a citrus solution. I would recommend that you try to buy a pre- made solution from an orchid specialty grower or an orchid society. good luck .

**Q: my mom got me an orchid for mothers day can this be used to repot it. and any tips or advice for repotting would be awesome. thank you**
A: Yes you can but just so you know these chips are much bigger than what the orchid came with. It still works. We spray the orchid food weekly and we have magnificent blumes that last a long time. Make sure you get the clear type planters with slits or holes in them so that you can see root rot/mold. People that use the pretty solid planters will not be able to notice that sort of thing. If you want the "pots" just make sure those see through planters fit inside and make sure when you water to pull those planters out so that you can see the roots to accommodate what is going on. I have one been able to get majority of what is needed for larger transfers on Amazon. Nursery stores only sell the plants and the solid pots and not the drainage planters. We keep ours in rock,/ pebbles tray and keep water in it that is touching the bottom of the plastic planters...for the moisture that the orchid likes and not so much that you cause rot/mold. Hope this helps 😊 We are not orchid pros but what we have done has worked for us. We have a total of 5 with one being one of the smaller species of orchid. You are welcome to ask me more if I missed anything you may not know.
