I can't remotely imagine how heat would aid the healing of a cold sore – in fact if anything, sunshine is known to activate the latent cold sore virus, making previous cold sore sites re-ignite. So I'd steer clear of this for any purpose other than the advertised use. **Q: Will this work on hives / heat lumps?** A: This product is specifically designed to treat insect bits and stings. It helps stop the itching and swelling. It is not suitable for hives or heat lumps. **Q: This won't damage my skin will it?** A: I have been relatively happy with this, however, have experienced dark marks on the skin when I frequently repeated the heat on related spots. I bought it for my wife for a trip to Turkey as she always has problems with the mozzies. I am so glad I did as it was my turn to be the main course. This device took the itch out of a dozen nasty bites. The machines outputs an uncomheat on the skin but it doesn't burn or hurt. The affect on the bite is immediate and the itching stops instantly. You may have to use it a few times a day but it's worth it. Tip; if you use the devise as soon as you realise you've been bitten, then you won't have to repeatedly use it as much. This would gave got 5 stars (I'd give it 10) if the build quality was better. Very light weight and flimsy.
