Itsuki Hashima is kind of a disaster. Between struggling to meet deadlines for his novels and being constantly bothered by his friends, he has one oddity that makes life even more difficult—he's obsessed with little sisters! Luckily, he has his younger stepbrother, Chihiro, to look out for him and keep him sane. And, while he may complain about them, Itsuki can't deny that he enjoys the company of his colorful group of friends when they come over for beer, games, and of course, ranting about the struggles of their work. Even if it does mean enduring the abrasive advances of fellow perverted author, Nayuta—who, despite her best efforts, will never win his heart since she isn't a little sister! But nothing can prepare Itsuki for the secret Chihiro has been hiding—will it completely change their relationship?

Space Battle - Minus the giant robots and Jedi.
When I bought this product, I was looking for a space opera without the giant robots. It seemed most sci-fi had involving space battles involved giant robots, and I was tired of them. I was familiar with the old series, and knew what to expect here concerning the basic plot. After watching the entire series, I found I was not disappointed. This was a worthy addition to my collection of anime.First let me point out that this series is a remake, but a good one. The people who made it had a definite love for the old series. It has a feel of the old 1980's cartoons, but at the same time offers a fresh look on the series in terms of better animaton, story, and greater characterization. It focused on not only on the crew of the Yamamoto, but also on the Gamelans. The english dub is good too, though there are parts that require some subs with the Gamelans (I think they were speaking their native language). Also some people have said Kodai's voice is too deep. That is true, but after a while, you get used to it. I can't complain about the other cast members though. I think each of the voice actors did a good job, and voice synchs with the character lips was descent. The only thing I had a small quarrel with was how the Yamamoto seemed invincible at times. It could be argued that she was build with advanced technology (more advanced than the Gamelans) but it was a little hard to believe how much the ship could take. But the combat was what I was looking for. Definitely an original Star Wars feel (minis the Jedi). All in all, if you are looking for a good space opera, without oversized robots or intergalactic wizards, but has some good ship battles and dog fight scenes, then this is a good choice.

Part 2 of a classic reborn
A few things.First i know people have been complaining that the digital copy code doesn't work. My first attempt to redeem it didn't work. The problem is you can't tell the difference between a zero or the letter O in the code. Redeem the code as shown and if it doesn't work, replace the O's with zeros. Now for the a brief review.I watched the original series back in the early 80's. And it remains my all time favorite anime. A remake of my 2nd favorite anime Bubble Gum Crisis didn't impress me that much. So i was keeping my fingers crossed with this.To put it mildly, this remake is awesome. Loving the new designs, sub-plots and animation. You get a hint that not all is well with the Gamilas or a hidden plan among certain members of the Yamato's crew. The action, drama, and intrigue get better and better.Any one that enjoys Sci-Fi or space opera anime. Please give this series a try.

story AND art, in one story!
i bought part one, having bought the original series looong ago, and it blew. me. away! there's really no way to compare the old V.s the new, they are so,so different! its black and white V.s 3-D 4-HD. nothing in common to compare, each to the other. you want these new series, you really, really do. if you kinda liked star blazers from in the day, this new adaptation will blow you away. it generally follows the same story line as the original series, but that's where the comparisons stop. new story-lines for old characters, new characters appear, added adventures, all of space filled with fast-moving space battles - you can't go wrong! its the difference between 'crib notes for dummies( old )', and the full, expanded book( new ). i hope this helps! ;)

Great series!
Considering how badly I learned the original Star Blazers series was butchered before original broadcast in the 70s, I was intrigued when I learned that someone had completely remade the series, added a few characters, deepened the storyline, and improved the design of the Yamato. I bought season 1 and was thrilled by how good it was! So when Season 2 came out, it would have been an instant buy, except for the price. So I waited until I found it as a better price, which Amazon had. If you're hesitant, don't be. This series is great! And it has one of the coolest episodes with one of the most epic battles of all time!

Show is amazing! Quality is excellent! Dub is superb! Special features are meh.
Flipping AMAZING remake! Adds a whole new dimension while somehow staying incredibly faithful to the original (even keeps a nod to BG McAuliffe of the 101st Airborne at Bastogne from the original). A superior English dub. You can tell a lot of thought went into the translation. Acting is great. Looks and sounds awesome. Comes with code for access to digital copy on Funimation. One star off only because the commentary (only available on very few episodes) is absolutely awful. They sound like they're high, and adds nothing. But that doesn't take anything away from the enjoyment of the actual episodes. If you're not buying for the special features, it's an easy 5 stars!

Impressive and lovingly done culmination of the Iscandar voyage
Culmination of the first arc to Iscandar, another great homage to the original; additionally fleshing out characters and plot points. Like many others the original Star Blazers and Speed Racer were my introduction to anime in the 70s leading to a lifetime of enjoyment and collecting. I was so impressed by this series re-imagining and their obvious devotion to the source material, I kept hoping for it to go on and on. Very happy with this collection and hope we see the next round. Picture quality is great on this BD. We've also got the bonus of the original Matsumoto manga omnibus due to drop at the end of December!

WOW AND WOW STAR BLAZERS YAMATO FANS
Though I was skeptical at first --- This Series is the Rare Remake / Reboot that AT TIMES surpasses the Original. If youre an 80s Star Blazers fan the names and voices are different but still in English and well acted ( I only wish there had been some voice cameos by classic actors tom tweedy, eddie and amy ) but the Animation is crazy Loyal as is the Writing and Story -- even filling in a few plot holes, skipping a few silly episodes and adding new content 2199 is Perfect for Yamato Fans and will give classic american Star Blazers fans something NEW to Love beyond nostalgia.

Excellent continuation of part one
Part two continues to set the bar for space anime. It's beyond good, it's awe inspiring. Viewed projected in simulated 3D onto a 120" screen with full surround sound, it's an immersive space adventure. It took me a long time to go through part two as each episode was so good I had to give it time to savor. Bravo!

A Great Retelling of the Original..!
I was taken by complete surprise to actually find this was out there for purchase. I actually viewed it prior to purchase to make sure it was the new retelling of the classic, and not just a reboxed set of the original. I already own the 3 original series released years earlier. Funimation did an excellent job at the dubbing process. I was slightly disappointed with the voice of the Captain over the original series they could have made him sound much older. As for the entire set it beats watching the subtitled version, that is out there. I look forward to the release of Space Battleship Yamato 2202 in March 2019. Hopefully Funimation will dub Space Battleship Yamato 2199: Odyssey of the Celestial Ark in English, which ties in with Space Battleship Yamato 2202 when the Yamato was on it's way home from Iscandar.

Takes be back to my childhood but better
Fantastic quality but the old English version song is gone in this version and just the Japanese audio plays. I have to sing it myself every episode now. I don’t mind but my neighbours might.

Takes you back, while creating a new experience!
Amazing, this really takes me back, and it's also a great series for anyone who enjoys a good space themed story. Quality of the transfer is impeccable as expected and the soundtrack is rich and really improved on the elements of the original.

Great end to a first season
Enjoyed this series as a kid and this remake is even better. Hoping to see the next season (Yamato 2202) sooner than later.
