A Guide to Biblical Manhood

Not bad but not profound
It wasn't what I was really hoping for but it did do a good job of laying down Bible verses.

Easy Read - Tough Message
Point: Genuine manhood is found in Christ. It is tough, demanding, scarce, and possible through the Gospel.Path: This short book is divided into four key sections. The authors first highlight genuine manhood through studies of biblical figures such as Adam, Job, David, Solomon, Paul, and Jesus Christ. The second section focuses on a man and his marriage followed by a section directed towards a man and his children. The final section is an encouragement to pastors to model and teach biblical manhood.Sources: The authors fill their short chapters with biblical references, helpful quotes, and funny illustrations.Agreement: I appreciate this short plug for biblical and genuine manhood. This is a book that I plan on buying for guys going on our bi-annual man-a-thons. I plan on placing this book in the hands of my brothers. It is not meant to be a definitive guide on manhood, but a signpost to the comprehensive work - God's Word.Disagreement: There were a few slips and typographical errors (ascribing the book of Jude to Paul, etc.). One could complain about generalizations or shallow treatments, but this is meant to be a booklet, not a treatise.Personal App: I need to love God, love my wife, love others and lead well. Genuine biblical manhood is not natural nor easy - but it is what God expects of me and can produce in my through the Gospel.Favorite Quote: "Yes, children need to clean their room, to share with their brother and to stop hitting, but more importantly, they need the Gospel" (98).

Essential read for men
It can be difficult to get men together around a book, but Stinson and Dumas have made it easy and enjoyable in A Guide to Biblical Manhood. This little guide is a clear, concise practical theology written from a complementarian perspective that calls men to be men in all of life, but especially in their marriages and families.Dr. Stinson and Mr. Dumas urge men to be doers of the Word "in the classroom, on the job, as a husband or as a father." The authors reveal insights into these areas by a wonderful review of key men in Scripture - men just like us today with all our successes and failures. In these stories, we see the character of biblical manhood highlighted and are challenged to join the pursuit of becoming men patterned after the True Man - Jesus Christ. The book also provides a guide for husbands, fathers and pastors to take the teaching of biblical manhood and put it into daily practice.A Guide to Biblical Manhood is an easy read and comes at an excellent price. These features make it an attractive resource that can guide individuals and groups of men into heading and living out the Word of God as they have been uniquely designed to do as men. If you only pick up one resource on biblical manhood, this is the one to have.

Great book for men, husbands and fathers
I enjoyed this book it shed a lot of light on some things for me and challenged me in many ways. This is a book worth reading.. that is, if... you are man enough!

Very simple yet very challenging
This book challenges men to be men. Using men in the Bible as object lessons this book challenges men to rid themselves of weak, childish, immature things (and this book has revealed so many more things than I would ever have thought I had). It focuses on what a true man of God is supposed to be. It teaches that being a man is all about character and willing to do hard things and take the hit, it doesn't matter how many muscles you have or anything else that can be bought with money and a gym membership.I have to revisit this book often to be reminded and challenged to be a man that honors God. Anyway, this a book, I think, every Christian man should read...and the great thing is that it's short so even men who don't like to read can finish it.

Very helpful profile of biblical manhood
Its short. It provides a portrait of different characters in the bible and shows what they teach about manhood. In doing so it goes to places often neglected in the talk about manhood. The best example for this is the assessment of Job as a model of manhood in suffering. Its theological and practical. It teaches in a way that is highly applicable and challenging. Certainly worth the price and time to read it.

Great resource
This is a great guide for either a mentoree or a mentor of a young man who is serious about learning better how a "real" man behaves in the world. This can fill the void created by a lack of positive male role models today. The false view of men portrayed on TV, in movies and music is well counterbalanced by the material found herein. A young man could go through this on his own with great benefit. Even better would be to read and discuss it with an older man who cares about you.

Good fodder for any man at any age.
I am crowding 74 years of life experience, am highly invested in the ministry to men in a mega church in the Midwest. I read a lot of material on how to disciple and mentor men an this book is more than worth the cost in this arena. I will be suggesting we use this material in one of the flywheel events we frequently have. Well done.

A great little book!
Each chapter takes no more than 10 minutes but each one gives us plenty to think about and lots of verses to meditate on as we long for God to make us the men he's calling us to be.
