Stargate SG-1: Season 9

A Change-Over Season
Alright, this is a change-over season. I think it's great however, I recommend for all first time watchers of SG-1 to read my recommendation first before continuing. It's up to you how to react and deal with everything, but I do recommend this:My recommendation to all who come to season 9 from season 8. I recommend this as an excellent break point where you should now head over to Stargate Atlantis and watch that. I may recommend watching all of it, since it shouldn't be too much off historically, minus the last season of it, or so. Guys, first time watchers for SG-1 are going to be really upset after watching the first episode for this season, so take a breather, come back, and dive in. Believe me, I was ready to kill the directors after watching the first time through and getting here, so I understand perfectly. So, go and watch SGA after season 8 of this series and finish out that series. Then come back here, you're mind will be fresh. However, you can stop watching SGA around the time General Landy, which you'll see in this episode of season 9, comes on the scene. By that time you'll be caught up to here and probably have enough time spent away that diving back here and passing time in this episode to understand everything you'll be more ready for what you see here, and you'll like it better. However, yes, I understand without Jack O'Neil as the lead it wasn't really the same. However, I must say they did a good job. The reason for the change was Richard Dean Anderson, aka Jack, left the set to spend time with his daughter. So, you'll see him in a few episodes but never full time again. So, all in all transitioning directly from SG-1 season 8 to 9 is a shock. You lose Richard Dean Anderson, AKA Jack, without much to go on. Everything changes, and you're left looking at it like the directors destroyed the series. Please, trust me that they didn't. I was extremely pissed when I first entered season 9, but having watched all of SG-1, SGA, and SGU, I understand they've done pretty well. Please, first time viewers of SG-1 take a breather, and come back. Even if you have loved this series up to now, like me, you'll still wish things were better, first time through. It isn't until you take the breather, come back, and better understand, that you watch and try to understand this first episode better that you actually learn to adjust to the changes given. From there the series isn't actually as bad as you would think this season.Overall, I wanted to make sure you guys all understand. This season really is excellent, but you have to be willing to have patience. So, please, give this season a chance, and keep going til' the end.Enjoy guys.Remember, take a breath. Then continue.

S9E19 that beat vala does, it has meaning.
13m43s into the episode, vala beats some dough with spoons. it's a specific beat and the same as in the beginning of the song "Down With The Sickness" by Disturbed .the (very) general meaning of the song is somewhat fitting with this episode. a surprising change in vala before she herself even realizes it. maybe a little easter egg from the writers and director meant as a foreshadowing moment giving more meaning to future events in the show.

Some people have comfort foods.... we have comfort shows....
This is for Stargate fans. This series came out after the movie Stargate around 20 years ago – and it ties to the movie, so you’d want to watch the movie first. Now, the CGI and the recordings are kind of "meh", especially on Hi def TVs. But, we enjoyed it so much that we decided to revisit the entire series - not for binge watching but for "we're traveling and there's no cable or Netflix" or "It been a long day and let's just decompress watching something we know is fun and light and slightly dramatic but has no relationship to reality whatsoever". You know a “comfort” show. Its 10 seasons and a few spinoff mini-movies so we have a long enjoyable time ahead of us. And it will be easy to throw a DVD into our bag if we’re heading to a cabin in the mountains or out on our boat. Now, if you want something more current (so better quality recordings) IMO “Once Upon A Time” or “Marvel’s Agents of Shield” are about the same kind of program. Maybe even “Grimm” if you want something a little edgier. This is NOT a “True Blood” or “Dexter” or “Breaking Bad” or “Walking Dead” series. (I’ve watched them all.) This is a “watch a show or two and immediately hit your pillow with no lingering effects” series.

As good as ever, if not better!!!!
I purchased this season with trepidation as I was dubious about the changes in the casting as i had loved the previous 8 seasons with Richard Dean Anderson and the rest. The humour was excellent and each episode was most enjoyable leaving me always wanting more. Well, imagine my surprise when i watched the first few episodes to find that the changes had not detracted from the show at all but made it every bit as good as before. The writers etc have not tried to replace the O'Niell character but have introduced a new dynamic with some excellent humour. The episodes have been very good and while I still have 4 episodes to watch, I am hoping that the rumours about the show being cancelled after season 10 are not true. I will watch this show for as long as it is available. (I have to watch on DVD as i do not get the show on TV here). I love the new humour from all the cast and the transition from the Gou'Ald to the Ori has been interestingly handled. It is also great to see that the team do not always succeed, but i hope that they do eventually overcome the ORI.As for the extras, I have enjoyed those I have watched, but I generally do not buy DVDs for the extras rather for the show/movie. The extras are a bonus.I would heartily recommend this season to any of the Stargate fans out there who are dubious due to the cast change. For those who have yet to watch eny episode, rather watch the first 8 seasons first, then this one as there are references to past incidents with flash backs that are not likely to make sense if you haven't seen them.Roll on the next season!!!!!

Stargate season 9
Épica temporada, un preludio a la última temporada de una serie que fue la más larga con temática de ciencia ficción, una aventura con cada episodio.

All change at the SGC
With the majority of the Goa'uld defeated during the previous season this ninth season sees the rise of a new threat to the galaxy in the form of the godlike Ori. This season also sees changes to the main cast with Richard Dean Anderson leaving the main cast and new faces in the shape of Ben Bowder, Claudia Black (both from the excellent Farscape) and Lexa Doig (from Andromeda) joining the show on a regular or semi-regular basis. This change in cast could have been quite terrible but thankfully Ben Bowder more than fills Anderson's shoes as Lt. Col. Mitchell, the new leader of SG-1, and all the other new additions to the cast also fit in very well. The storyline of this season is good, with the defeat of the Goa'uld last season it was inevitable that a new galactic threat was going to be introduced and the Ori are an interesting addition to the Stargate universe, even if they are a rather thinly veiled critic of religious extremism. There are many good episodes from this season and as a whole it has a many more good episodes than many of the previous seasons. The Ori plot arc is present to a greater or lesser degree in virtually all of the episodes and this gives the season a nice sense of continuity. My favourite episode from this season has to be the excellent `Babylon' which sees Mitchell captured by mysterious Jaffa isolationists and has a nice Last Samurai fell to it.Despite it continuing for more than nine years by this point, this season of Stargate still feels fresh and I think that much of this has to do with the new cast that have been added this year. The writing and acting are all still above the average for a genre show and Stargate as a whole only gets better and better. I can only hope that the tenth and final series continues this trend.
