Super bright light for the home!
Was shocked at the value of this light, very bright and crisp ligh produced. We constantly have power outages in the summer and needed something to safely navigate the house when the lights are out. This light was perfect. No it's not a heavy duty everyday carry or work light but for the average homeowner, it's perfect! It's small enough to tuck into a shelf for emergencies. It has great rubber coating that makes it feel durable and long lasting and the lens is very thick and shockingly bright light that you can dim. For general use, this is a great value!

These will drain every bit of available energy from AA batteries
I have a lot of different LED lights, but this is the one I almost always reach for first. The balance of size/brightness/ease of switching are just right for me.But another feature I really like is that it will drain the last bit of energy from AA batteries. I hardly ever put new batteries in this light, but use mostly AA's I've taken out of other devices. I keep a box of used batteries from things like TV remotes and other devices. Sometimes they were replaced because of low battery warnings, or just on a yearly basis to prevent corrosion damage. Most of these batteries still have life left in them, and this light will get all that is left. I only use the light a couple of minutes at a time, around the house. I only put new batteries in it if I am taking it camping or some other use where I need to depend on longer use.A lot of devices will complain when a 1.5 volt alkaline battery gets down to about 1.3 or so. When this light is done with them, they can be as low as under 1.0 volts before it finally stops working.

Not the best option
I bought it for its IP rating, durability, and because it can run on all kinds of AA batteries. But the performance I would score 3/5. It dies too fast without any notice.

Excellent flashlight and value
I have a number of more expensive flashlights (Surefire, etc.) that are great for what I use them for (hiking, EDC, etc.), so I know a bit about flashlights. Here's what I like about the Energizer Hard Case Task Light:1. Good power (2 settings - low and high)2. Bright white beam color3. Wider-angle beam, relative to some other types of lights4. Runs on 2 AA batteries, cheap and easy availability5. Side switch is very easy to activate6. Flat bottom allows it to stand up7. Seems durable8. Excellent valueFor general use around the home and car I find this flashlight to be much better and more useful than the higher-power, tactical-style lights. It throws a much wider beam that's useful within 20 feet or so in a dark room. The switch is much easier to activate than typical tail-cap switches. Some reviewers said the battery life is poor. I typically use it for a minute or two at a time, perhaps a couple of times a day, so I can't offer any useful feedback on battery life. It did seem that the batteries that came with it didn't last too long - don't know if they were just old batteries that had been on the shelf for awhile or if the flashlight does drain batteries fairly quickly.I popped in a pair of Eneloop AA rechargeable batteries. They fit and worked fine. Some rechargeables are slightly larger than standard AA batteries and fit can be an issue, but the Eneloops fit just like regular AA batteries. One issue I encountered seemed like a problem but wasn't. I was having problems turning the flashlight on, and it was only providing one power setting, not two. I thought it may have been faulty, but it was just low batteries. Popped in another set of batteries and it was fine.If you're looking for a high-output tactical light, this isn't it. But it's a great flashlight for home and car use.Assuming the flashlight holds up over time, it's a steal at the price it sells for.

Completely unreliable
You'll notice a lot of reviews for this flashlight warning about it's propensity to not restart once you've turned it on and then off. Please, don't do as I did and ignore those reviews!I bought 3 of these electro-turds before I realized I was hosed. The darn things have some "feature" that prevents them from turning on when you most need them to turn on. (Look at my photo of the circuit board - c'mon, do we really need all that complexity? How about just wiring in a simple on/off switch and leaving it at that?)Imagine being lost at night, in a storm, slowly making your way along a cliff. You turn the flashlight off for a moment so you can check for other lights - are your friends coming to rescue you? No, you can't see any other lights, so you continue walking, turn the flashlight back on, and...nothing. It's a "light or death" moment, and all you get is darkness. You realize you bought the World's Most Dangerous Flashlight just as you lose your footing on the cliff, fall 2,000 feet, and turn from a solid into a liquid.Okay, that's an extreme example, but we buy really bright, expensive flashlights like this one to help us in extreme situations. This thing isn't remotely up to the task. It's so unreliable it's scary. 'Nuff said.
