Arnall's Adjustable Pontoon Rod Holder

i bought 3 of these for my dad on fathers day for his pontoon boat. he loves them, he put them togather very easily and fast they hooked right up to the boat and work great

I like the fact that it's one of the simplest to use rod holders out there. No straps or sleeves to hold your rod in place; just drop it in. It's equally easy to get your rod out of in a hurry. I use spinning gear, so the reel lays to the side. As others have mentioned, it has little ability to keep your rod from moving left-to-right, so it's not much use for trolling with the rod perpendicular to the boat travel. It's great for still fishing or trolling directly off the back of the boat. Perhaps a couple of serrated washers would help keep the holder from twisting.

My second order of these. I have them on my pontoon and they work great.

Everything mentioned in the advertisement is true, however, it is what is omitted which makes this product unusable in the most used applications. There is no way to secure the top to the bottom to keep it from spinning around and facing in a direction unusable for trolling. It is a place to put your rod if you are in need of sitting it down, and that is all. It cannot be used for trolling.

These holders perform well as long as you are not trying to fish in current. I bought these to fan out my rods when catfishing, and if there is any current, the holders turn right with the current, making it impossible to fan them out at various angles. I am stuck trying to come up with a "rig" to stop this from happening.
