Clarinet voice fine for blues & Brazilian saudades
Anat Cohen is a very fine clarinetist, reviving this instrument almost lost to jazz in the past 25 years. The clarinet's mournful overtones are just right for blues and to capture the "saudades" or longing/nostalgiain Brazilian music -- also right for the Israeli and shtetl melodies that echo in her own compositions. She has theright jazz touch to bring in a string quartet without the result sounding too like schmaltzy "crossover" stuff.

Something for everyone
Poetica is my favorite Anat Cohen recording. She always includes her own brand of lyrical smoothness but with a relatively large number of other instrumentalists, we hear middle eastern flavors, touches of Brazilian rhythms, even some brassy big band numbers. There really is something for everyone in this album.

Liked better than Claruscurro
I'm not much of a jazz aficionado but I enjoyed this a lot. There are strong Klezmer influences, but it's not a Klezmer recording. I found it a lot more accessible and varied than Claroscuro.
