Classic Baseball Cards: 98 Collector's Cards Authentically Reproduced in Full Color

Good, inexpensive introduction to old-time cards
Reprint cards are an acquired taste and a lot of hobbyists hate them because they aren't original issues, but I like the fact that instead of having to shell out seven figures for the T-206 Honus Wagner cards (the Holy Grail of baseball cards), I could spend $50 and get the entire 526-card set in mint condition.Which leads me to this book. Dover has in the past put out six paperback books devoted exclusively to classic baseball cards. Although the paper stock is pretty thin and the card backs are all in black & white ink, this is an extremely affordable way to start getting into collecting reprint cards. There are 98 different cards spanning the late 19th Century to mid 20th Century (including the Wagner card), and the vast majority of players depicted are in the Hall of Fame. As the cover suggests, you'll get Cy Young, Shoeless Joe, Ruth, DiMaggio, etc. The cards are perforated, too, so if you want to separate the cards and put them in a shoebox, you can do it.If you've even considered buying older cards, this book is a solid way of dipping your toes in the water without paying much money...Why spend tens of thousands of dollars on original cards if you can 98 reprints for $5? The other five books can be had for about the same price.Insist on the originals? Go ahead and call your banker and stockbroker. Just want a slice of baseball history without selling your firstborn child? Try this book.

It is as I remember it is.
When I was digging through my old baseball cards collection, I came upon a bunch of damaged replica cards from a previous copy of this book. Since I wanted to replace the cards, and also had trouble explaining the book to other collectors, I just decided to buy the book again and show 'em. It's exactly how I remember it. It's also a nice starter kit for any child who wants to get into baseball cards collecting, and also a nice piece of baseball history, as it showcases the most exciting cards of the entire history of baseball cards, and the most exciting players from the early days of baseball itself.

Reprints of classic baseball cards but be aware that they are reprints of older cards, from 1887 to 1941, so nothing from the 50s or 60s. See my pic for a complete list of included players.

Fun reproductions of old baseball cards
Worth a purchase as long as the price is not too much. These were printed during the early 1990s card boom, and likely over printed as they are still available and the cost is usually less in 2023 than it was in 1990. There are at least 4 different similar books by this author, each with reproductions of different classic old cards.Anyway, neat old vintage baseball card reproductions with perforated edges so you can remove them from the book if you want.
