Q: will side tear checks fit in this cover?

No they wont, in fact, my review of this cover was only 1 star. When I added the checks, the plastic protector for the carbon copy does not lay properly so you end up writing some info on several checks. Poor design and cheaply made. I still use the cover but I have to tear out my checks with the carbon copy page and write them out separately.
